Tokina 10-17mm vs Canon 10-22mm for Canon 7D
TkdCol posted a topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Hi, I'm looking at getting a wide angle lense (I can only afford one wide angle and one macro set-up atm, so both is not an option). The top 2 contenders seem to be the Tokina 10-17mm and the Canon 10-22mm. I hope to shoot larger animals like whales, sharks, large schools and to a lesser extend some reefscapes and wrecks. The Tokina seems to be the more popular lense, but I'm concerned about the ballooning that comes with the fish eye effect. Any advice or experience is appreciated. Thanks. -

Hello folks, after many happy dives together I’m parting ways with my trusty D500 setup. “El camarón” (“The Shrimp”) has won me several awards over the last couple of years, so I want to make sure it finds a good home. After all it’s still a very capable camera! I have a full setup to sell and will give preference to those that are interested in the whole thing, but I am open to selling parts of it also. Here’s what’s for sale: - Nikon D500 including a total of three batteries, charger, 32GB XQD memory card, 64GB SD card, XQD card reader, all in excellent condition: $1150 - Nauticam NA-D500 housing including M16 vacuum valve, vacuum pump, Nauticam flash trigger, UWTechnics HSS flash trigger, additional M5 ball mount, bracket for hand strap: $2900 The housing has gotten a fair bit of use but is 100% functional. It’s just showing cosmetic details, like the white paint coming off on some of the button labels and some (limescale?) deposits around the buttons, despite having been thoroughly rinsed after every use. If cosmetics are important to you you could send it to Nauticam to be refurbished and get a like-new-looking housing back for a couple of hundred bucks. The velcro hand strap tore, so I “fixed” it with zip ties You could easily get a velcro replacement for a couple of dollars, I just never did as my zip tie fix did the trick. The housing never flooded, leaked or otherwise malfunctioned. I also have a couple of spare bits and bobs in terms of replacement parts like springs and stuff, should you ever need to repair anything in the field. - Nikkor AF-S DX 10-24mm 1:3,5-4,5G ED with Nauticam zoom gear: $770 The lens is in excellent condition, it’s just missing the hood that usually comes with it (donated to Poseidon) Works very well with 230mm dome and Extension ring 50. - Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AT-X 107 DX Fisheye with Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX 1.4 Teleconverter and Nauticam zoom gear (for both with and without TC), All in excellent condition: $560 Without TC: needs either Zen 100mm dome without extension or 230mm dome with Extension ring 20 With TC: use with Zen 100mm dome and Extension ring 20 - Micro-Nikkor AF-S FX 60mm f/2.8G ED, like new, works with Macro port 60: $420 - Micro-Nikkor AF-S FX 105mm 1:2,8G VR, like new, works with Macro port 60 and Extension ring 20: $660 - Nauticam 45° Viewfinder: $770 The rubber cup around the viewfinder has started to disintegrate, otherwise it’s in very good shape. Like on the housing, the white paint on the labels is coming off. - Nauticam Macro port 60, excellent condition: $380 - Zen DP-100-N120T 100mm dome port, excellent condition: $650 - Zen DP-230-N120-1124D 230mm dome port: $1200 This dome has a couple of very small, fine scratches on the glass. They almost never show up in pictures though so have never bothered me much. I will try to get some close up pictures of them which will then be in the Dropbox folder linked below. There are also some mild hard water stains along the edge of the glass that do not show up in pictures. Comes with a GoPro mount on the top and some trim weights at the bottom. - Nauticam Extension ring 20 with lock, good condition: $260 - Nauticam Extension ring 50 with lock, excellent condition: $280 All of this adds up to $10,000 Package deal: $9600 I’m also happy to part ways with a Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300 mm F/4.5-6.3G ED VR, a basic telephoto for some casual bird photography for example for another $200, excellent condition. I’m based in Mexico but am happy to ship anywhere. Shipping and import duties would be on you. I could also potentially ship it from another country while traveling (for example from Florida in about two weeks), or you just come to La Paz, pick up an amazing camera system and go diving with some sea lions or swim with some marlins. I’ll even take a few pictures of you using it! I will put detailed pictures in the following Dropbox folder in a few days. I’m currently traveling so don’t have all parts with me right now. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rg5kwqvx3iqn1ap/AAD7BEoB8mFJzF8oPE3MqZb_a?dl=0 Any questions just let me know! Hannes

I am selling a complete Nikon D7000 system, that includes everything you need to shoot professional quality images. This has only been my spare setup, hasn’t been used very much at all, for this reason all the items listed below are in excellent conditions, they have been looked after meticulously. The underwater camera body is in “like new” conditions, it has never been used outside the housing. The housing works like a dream, never flooded, never had an issue with it, it always performed great when I needed it, also has a sound/led light leak detector for extra piece of mind. All camera lenses and dome are in perfect conditions, no scratches in front elements. I would love to sell the setup as a whole. Cameras: 2 x Nikon D7000 Lenses: Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AT-X 107 AF DX Fisheye Lens Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55MM F/3.5-5.6G VR Housing: Nauticam NA-D7000 Underwater Housing for the Nikon D7000 Port: 4.33''ACRYLIC WIDE-ANGLE DOME PORT FOR TOKINA AT-X 10-17MM F3.5-4.5 FISHEYE DX Extras: Camera straps 2x Nikon Battery Charger 3x Nikon D7000 battery Nauticam O-ring grease Spare o-rings Nauticam Hex key set Items are located in Australia. Shipping charges and PayPal fees at buyer’s expense. Please feel free to ask any questions. Asking price for the whole setup is 2500 USD (3500 AUD).

All 3 pieces are in very good condition. There are no scratches on the glass of the Zen port, the shade has a few marks of use. The Tokina 10-17 F3.5-4.5 DX AT-X has no scratches on the front and rear element, there is no visible dust or fungus in the lens, the manual focus is smooth. There are marks on the rear metal part of the lens, where mounts on the camera body. The zoom gear is: TC1017-Z for Tokina AT-X 10-17/Canon I'm looking for $450 for the Zen port, $175 for the Tokina lens, $100 for the gear, or $675 for the set. Plus shipping.

Hi Tim, Thanks so much for your reply. Wish you all good in your moving. Yes, I just decided to buy a Sigma 15mm which is more newer than Tokina 10-17. I'm with a D750 now and in the process of purchasing a Nauticam housing system from China. I just read an article online yesterday saying that Tokina 10-17 works very well on a full frame DSLR with a more like wide angle effect than fisheye on DX camera. I attached the link here https://www.uwphotographyguide.com/sigma-15mm-tokina-fisheye-review for you, may be you have some interest in it. By the way, on your experience, do you think it's better to change for a new D850 instead of using the current D750 which seems to be much more harder for sell when I want to upgrade my devices in the future. Thank you.

I am selling my Tokina 10-17mm fisheye lens with Canon mount The lens has had the hood removed in order to gain more useable focal length range when used with a full frame sensor camera, essentially giving you an extra 1mm without vignetting. Can be used on crop sensor or full frame Canon camera's. This lens is well used and shows signs of cosmetic wear and tear but functions perfectly. There is a very small mark on the front glass element but doesn't show in pictures. I'm looking for £170 + postage

Hi, all. I bought this beautiful glass dome and lens combo new in June last year to shoot on a new Sea & Sea MDX-80D housing. A couple of months ago an old friend decided to quit u/w photography and gave me his fisheye lens and another glass port, and I don't need to own two sets of fisheye lenses, zoom gears, and ports. The Optical Dome Port II sells for $1030 at Backscatter, and the Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 fisheye for Canon sells for $469. The zoom gear costs $220. There's no point in separating them, so I'll sell them as a set only. I'm asking $860 plus insured shipping. That's half the retail cost, so please don't bother trying to haggle on this one. Below are links to a few of my shots taken with this dome and lens. https://www.flickr.com/photos/firststage/43257166981/in/photolist-28UuhFP https://www.flickr.com/photos/firststage/29387465798/in/photolist-LLSrJN https://www.flickr.com/photos/firststage/29387476868/in/photolist-LLSv2E Thanks for looking. Please let me know if you have any questions.

About the conditions: I bought Camera Body + Housing 18 months ago, from a photo professional, in perfect status and I kept them in that way. When I bought the D7000, its shutter count was just above 16k (pretty new), now it's at almost 24k (as you can see in the screenshot on gumtree). And that means I haven't used much my camera, because I used the company's set every day. In the package are 4 different lenses. All of them usable for dry photos, 2 of them for underwater (Tokina fisheye and Nikoor Macro). The Tokina, Tamron, Nikkor 35 were bought brand new from shops. The 60 mm was a second hand but still in great conditions. Strobe bought second hand too and still in great conditions. Dome Port in excellent conditions too (can provide close up shots). Concluding: DSLR with zoom lens, wide angle, 35mm and macro for Street, travels, nature photography. 2 different sets for Underwater: 1)wide angle with 8.5" dome port 2)Macro 60mm with its port On top of everything, don't forget the Vacuum system, that makes you dive in peace, and trust me it's a big thing! Please do not hesitate to contact me for further info, more close up pictures or more. Local pick-up preferred. Cairns (QLD) Australian Shipping needs to be discussed International shipping costs charged to the recipient Regards
