Sony makes video editing software - Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum (64 bit) – for $79.95, which you can download and try for free. The camera can take still photos, which are saved on a separate “stick.” If sold locally, Jim Heimer will personally demo this equipment to the lucky purchaser and walk you through the setup and recording process. Jim Heimer won 1st Place in the 2009 Bonaire Shootout - Video Division. You can see how this video system performs underwater here: For example, you can search YouTube for James Heimer Diving or Jim Heimer diving for videos made with this equipment, including: · 2010 Aquacat Bahamas · Lembeh Muck Diving – Frogs, Scorpions, Lions, Gurnards, Porcupine · Here’s a link to another, longer UW video made with this equipment: https://youtube.com/watch?v=9flM6R_raPk
  2. Hey All, I am hoping I can find some advice for choosing appropriate video lights from some experienced forum users. I am an experienced stills shooter and have some prize money from a photo contest, which I have decided to use for video lights as I am happy with my still equipment. The prize money goes towards gear from SUPE / Scubalamp products. I intend to use the video lights for both GoPro and DSLR / Mirrorless purposes. I will mostly use them shallow <10m 30 feet; but will likely want to use them deeper at times and white balance accordingly. I'm trying to choose between 3 options at the moment. 1) Go with inexpensive 5000 lumen lights x2 that are not compatible with blue filters, but will not require much outlay of cash beyond the prize. 2) Go for 2x7500 lumen lights and blue filters that will require I outlay a fair bit of cash beyond the prize. 3) Go for 1x12000 lumen light and blue filter, which will require a modest outlay of cash. I suppose my big question is whether one powerful light or 2 more modest lights will be better in the short run... Thanks for any input.

  4. Hey Everyone, I have an extra pair of Sola Pro 15K heads. They are in perfect working condition. The domes have some scratches from normal use, but the scratches obviously don't affect light output. I am only selling because I don't need two sets of the heads, just the body modules (battery). These retail for $450 each, selling for $300 shipped for both. If you don't already have the body modules, you can purchase them for $950, which would save you about $400 (plus taxes) per light if you bought new.

  6. Hi guys I'm hoping for a bit of help with some new kit. I am looking for a couple of good video lights, but need to run them for several hours at a time rather than just 40mins - 1 hour of a standard dive. This will be my first foray into underwater video since the 1990s when I had a light system with a separate battery pack which was great, although I cannot for the life of my remember the name. I'll be filming on a Sony A7 iv or maybe v if it ever materialises in shallow water. If anyone has any experience of different makes and models used for long durations I'd really appreciate some help in my research. Thank you
  7. I've seen several posts about X-Adenturer, Weefine, Kraken, BigBlue and DivePro lights added over the last few days. As always Keldan is the elephant in the room First of all: pointing out that they are Chinese doesn't mean anything per se. Today 90% of our equipment is made in China. An iPhone is made in China. In our context, Nauticam is a Chinese company (I won't go into Hong Kong's terrible issues with Mainland China). As always the devil is in the details. Our equipment goes in salt water and given the cost, in the long run needs maintenance. So in addition to finding a product with great features, it is important to find a company that will support their products over the years and at a reasonable cost and time. As someone pointed out, sending a lamp to China for service from the U.S. / Europe has costs and times unrealistic. So it would be preferable to find a company with dealers who are also able to provide technical assistance and follow their customers. Nauticam has a worldwide network of dealers who can solve most of the problems. You are forced to send the housing to Hong Kong only for complete service and the dealer always takes care of it. Going back to the underwater lamps mentioned above, just take a tour of their websites to realize that many of their models are eerily similar if not identical. Even USA/Canada based companies, have identical lamp models except for logo customization and a few details. Moreover a quick search on AliExpress will shows dozens more unknown brands with very similar models. Have you noticed that they all have the same type of switch? A button that controls the lamp through a sequence of presses. I agree with @ChrisRoss, IMHO this is the absolute most inconvenient way to use it underwater. In the long run I have had several problems with this type of switch. They state that the lights are guaranteed 100 meters but already around 60 meters the switch does not work well. So the question I have been asking myself for a long time is: who really makes these lamps? It seems to me that Chinese and Western companies re-brand and "remake" OEM lamps with specific names, marketing and features, etc. But in reality most of the underwater lamp lines are the same. TL;DR Anyway, I too have had a couple and still have two small snoot lights that I use for macro. Some models are unbeatable value for money but in my opinion the important thing is to choose a brand with a reliable local dealer who will provide support if there are any problems. My experience on that:
  8. Does anyone have any experience with SUPE / Scubalamp video lights? More specifically, with the V6K and V4K series? The manufacturer claims output of 12000 lumen for the V6K and 7600 lumen for the V4K. Both lights are 96 CRI at 5500K. The standard battery pack is 4x18650 and the pro is 8x18650. I found that the company is a Chinese manufacturer called Kolta Electronics. They market a wide range of tactical lights under the Crelant brand, which are commonly found on eBay and Aliexpress. They have also been manufacturing OEM dive lights for several years and began marketing the Scubalamp brand in 2015. In 2016, they rebranded as SUPE and have been present at both DEMA and ADEX. To my eye, the V6K and V4K look to be quite well engineered and offering excellent value. They are functionally similar to the I-Torch Video Pro, Kraken Hydra and Fix Aqualight series. More info can be found here: http://www.scubalamp.com/products//photo-video-lights/v6k-pro-12000-lumens-100.html-100.html

  16. New to the forum but have always viewed this site as a great source of information. I shoot video with a Canon 7D in a Nauticam housing, using Light & Motion 2000X video lights. I've generally only used my lights on trips abroad (live in Southern California) but would like to start using them on local trips as well. While I've only used the lights on three trips (yes, I'd have been better off renting at that rate of usage), I haven't done a good job of charging the batteries periodically when not in use. Net effect is that I now have a great set of lightly used lights with batteries that no longer work. I unfortunately realized early on in a recent trip to Palau that I only had one usable battery, which resulted in a lot of potentially great, but half lit footage. I'm not able to locate any batteries, so I've really got two choices: If anyone knows of anyone still stocking these batteries (7.2V NiMH WN-6) it would be a great help, as I love the lights and would like to start using them more frequently. Conversely, if no batteries are available for sale but someone has a batch of batteries and a need to replace existing lights, I'd be open to selling as well. All help appreciated, and look forward to spending a lot of time here!

  21. So I'm looking to purchase some high power video lights for filming underwater but wanted to get feedback from people that may have used these in the field. or just any advice in general on this subject. I am fairly new to the lighting world underwater, and I have checkout many brands and there are a lot of options. My first thought was going with Light and Motion and get two Sola 2100 lights they run about $600 a pop have a spot and flood feature (which coming from the commercial and film world I like that option) and they are small. But as I shopped around I started noticing there are much brighter lights that pack more of a punch and I would rather spend the money now and get a light that offers more lumens than I can use for many application. Give or take 1600 lumens is roughly equivalent to a 100w incandescent bulb in terms of light output. I would want a light bright enough to give me some fill on even say a shark in mid day to bring back color and depending on your settings you can play around with your background a little more in terms of exposure. But the big question based on my experience with my Nikonos SB105 strobes and a small 600 lumen video light ( which didnt light anything during the day) Is there a Led video light that can provide roughly the same amount as a basic flash during the day like the Nikonos SB105. I looked at the following units. -Sola 4000 it gives 4000 lumens blue light, has3 output options and 80 degree beam and the battery last for 50mins at high out but for 2 its is a crazy $3000 dollars -I torch Video Pro 7 offer 5000 lumens 120 degree angel beam, last 1 hour at full output, has 5 output modes and has 2 levels of red light which im not sure what that is for. cost $800 each -Fisheye Fix led Aquavolt 5000 which is 5000 Lumens, 120 degree beam, dims, last 75min high power cost $1200 each but is now dis continued Long story short I am not sure where to look or start now, and I have read that even though it says it offer 4000 or 5000 lumens sometimes they are less. So let the chat begin what lights do you guys use? why have they worked best for you? Thanks for all the help and feedback in advance I am excited to learn some new stuff about lighting.
