I have a few items for sale. Hi, I have searched a lot for a proper snoot solution for one of my Inon Z-240s and basically I came across three solutions: fiber optic arms something like Inon's own snoot solution (with other manufacturers having additionally a laser aiming light) Retra Which one would you prefer? Currently I am leaning towards the Retra given its flexibility. But how do you store the Retra when you decide to take a picture without it? Also it is really heavy (600g though I don't know how much in water). Regards,

I'm very new to using an underwater strobe and don't really understand how a TTL system works using a fiber optic connection. I've been watching youtube videos explaining TTL in normal cameras connected via a hotshoe with an electronic connection and kind of understand that the camera fires a pre-flash to determine how much power it needs for the main flash. But how does this work with a simple optical trigger? If the camera uses its own pre-flash to trigger a pre-flash in the strobe and then provides corrects the main flash power, how is this information conveyed via the fiber optic from the camera to the strobe? To clarify, does the strobe vary its power according to the amount of light carried via the fiber optic cable? I have a Sony RX100M4 connected to an INON Z-240 (unfortunately there's no manual) via optic cable. Does anyone know if the RX100 uses a preflash when I use the fill flash? Should I put the Advanced Cancel Circuit Switch up or down on the Inon Z-240? Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi, I'm currently searching for a pair of strobes for my Nauticam housing and I'm wondering if I should go for Inon Z-240ies or Sea & Sea YS-D2 (or alternatively YS-D1, although they are more difficult to find these days in Europe). I'm slightly leaning towards the Inon Z-240 (Mark IV) as it can be used with fiber optic sync cords (whereas the YS-D2 would require 5-pin nikonos cords on Nauticam housing) and I read far more posts complaining about the quality of Sea & Sea flashes than Inon's flashes. The YS-D2 would be stronger than the Z-240 (32 vs. 24) but this advantage disappears when using the diffusor to achieve the same angle as the Z-240. So the advantage that remains are the more intuitive controls of the YS-D2. Price is basically the same. Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, I’m looking to buy my first underwater photography setup and need some advice to put everything together. On the first place I thought about my Nikon D7100 to take underwater but reality is brutal and whole setup would be very expensive and simply I can’t afford it. I sold camera and all lenses so now I can start from the begging. I’m moving to Thailand Koh Tao for year maybe longer. I’ll do my Instructor internship up there and I would like to have equipment with me to save memories. I would like to do some photography and video. My underwater setup needs to be medium size so is easy to carry and great for everyday usage. Camera: Sony RX100 Mark IV looks really nice is small with good photo specification and awesome video mode. I think is top range compact camera now available on the market. What you guys think about that camera is it worth investing money or something else would be a better choice? Housing: NA-RX100IV (www.camerasunderwater.co.uk) price £764 Ikelite is slightly cheaper but Nauticam looks more solid and safer. Lighting: I think the best configuration would be one flash plus video light. -Flash: What would be a better choice Inon Flash Z-240 Type 4 or Sea and Sea YS-D2 Strobe? Maybe they are other options to consider? I found good deal for both strobes and they are nearly same price at http://www.scubastore.com £420 around for each. Batteries are rechargeable or I need to buy them separately? Video light: I have no clue what to choose I may get a wide angle lens if will get enough money so something with high angle would be great, build in battery charger would be great option too. Quick question - Just jumped into my first U/W camera setup after finding a very cheap PT-EP08 for my "backup" camera the E-M5. (I also have the E-M1, but not ready to dunk that just yet). This a custom designed fiber snoot system for Z-240 and D-2000 flashes. What sets this system apart from the current commercial units available is the fact that it has 3 optical lines, two for each flash tube and a third for the LED modeling light. Using a snoot without a modeling light is a tricky "hit and miss" experience to what already is a difficult task of aiming your lights on small subjects, especially super-macro shots. This system breaks down for travel and can be used as a standard flash underwater with a twist of the locking system. I used this system with 3 Z-240's, one on each side for normal lighting and the 3rd with the snoot sitting center on a mount that allowed me to simply tilt the optical snoots forward for special lighting and than out of the way for regular fill flash (see photo below). If I needed a lot of light for wide angle work, I could easily twist the outer hub off the unit with the fiber cables, clip them to my BCD and use the Z-240 snoot flash for added fill. You could do the same with two strobes or even a single strobe set-up if you wanted to shoot regular fill flash and have a snoot when you needed it. It simply pushes onto the rear part of the unit attached to the flash the flash and locks in place with a twist. Having a modeling light telling you where your light is going to fall makes it an enjoyable experience. Larger optical cables are used to transmit more light efficiently. I could get good exposures at f32 if need be, but usually shot at about f11 the sweet spot. The optical cables simply screw onto the the front faceplate. The rear section attached with the same screws you use with your Inon diffusers (they're attached with a c-clip, like the Inon diffusers, so you don't have to worry about losing them). I'm selling because I'm paring my system down for a more compact travel rig. Save your money and get a better snoot system at less than than half the price of a Reefnet 2 cable system. Snoot housing and 3 optical cables for $275 THe Z-240 is strictly for demo purposes and does not come with the snoot. The long mount rod which I use for the tilt system is included. Anybody have experience with the CM Diffusers by AquaTerraImagery? I use Inon Z240 and often wonder if I may achieve better Edge (no pun intended Martin) lighting with a convex diffuser? Inon only manufacture the flat diffusers, but I have just discovered the CM Diffuser at http://cmdiffusers.bigcartel.com Any thoughts would be appreciated... Cheers Rod.
