  1. After having shot Olympus for several years in my documentary and street photography, and the recent announcement of Olympus selling off its camera division to JIP, I'm debating whether to dump all my Olympus gear or stick it out. I'm heavily invested in Olympus topside (5 bodies, 8 lenses, 3 TTL strobes) and debating whether to add an Olympus housing to my equipment list. I've considered switching out completely to SONY a6xxx for all my work but I truly love the compact form factor of m43. My issue is Olympus is really lagging on the video codec end of things - Panasonic is much better on that front but I want the ability to switch back and forth easily between stills and video while freediving. I'll be shooting ambient light only, primarily concentrating on large pelagic marine life, other freedivers, seascapes, etc. I can use/get either the Olympus 9-18 or either of the 8mm fisheye lenses from Olympus or Panasonic. Typical shooting depths no more than 15-20 meters maximum with 10 meters being the norm depending on water clarity. If I can move to SONY, can their 16mm f/2.8 lens with their clip on fish eye adapter be utilized in a housing with dome port? SONY doesn't have the lens options of other brands on that end of the lens spectrum so any advice/input would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Greetings! I have just recently upgraded and am selling my mirrorless underwater system! I have really enjoyed it and it took a lot of personal deliberation before deciding to finally let it go and fully commit to my new set up. The sony a6500 is a great underwater camera for photographers getting serious! For Sale: Sony a6500 camera: $900 or nearest offer, 16-50mm lens included. $800 body only. Sony 16-50mm lens: $150 Fantasea FA6500 Housing: $650 with port and zoom gear. $500 housing body only. Fantasia FML Flat Port 34 with zoom gear: $200 Fantasea - AOI UWL-09F Wide Angle Wet Lens: $400 See below for details and photos of each item! Please send direct message with any questions. The items are located in the USA. I do not favor shipping internationally since it is more costly to you (I would add shipping cost to the price), takes longer, and seems to be more risky. But if you are really interested we can discuss it over private message. Sony a6500 mirrorless cropped sensor camera body AND Sony 16-50 mm kit lens: ($900 o.b.o.) Good condition, gently used with signs of normal wear. Just over 11,200 shutter actuations, but this camera is one of the best in it's class, with the mechanical shutter rated up to 200,000 actuations. The sensor is perfect, and the back display screen is in great condition. All buttons and functions working perfect and properly. I have a battery charger and 5 batteries for it included. I also have the original box and operations manual for the new owner. The Sony E-mount 16-50mm lens is included and is in perfect condition. Glass is flawless and autofocus works perfect. I used this lens underwater with nice results! It is a very good versatile lens and I have also used macro wet diopters and a wet wide angle dome with it with happy results I also have two polarizer filters, a couple ND filters, and a few macro diopters for the 16-50mm lens included, as well as a Sony camera bag, neoprene camera case, I am selling the sony camera body and lens together, but send me a message if you are interested in either piece separate. Please ask if you want to see more photos. Asking $900 for the camera and lens. The items are located in the US and I prefer to ship within the continental USA, but please contact me for international shipping rates and I can do some research. Fantasea FA6500 Housing AND FML Flat Port 34 with zoom gear ($650 o.b.o) The housing has been set for the a6500, but can be converted to be used with the a6300. I will include the tools and guide that came with the housing. The housing is in great, almost-new condition, but with some scratches on one of the fiber optic connection holes. The fiber optics still fit fine and it is only cosmetic and does not affect functionality. Other than that, it is flawless and has never been flooded. I will include original o-rings and also Fantasea replacement o-rings. (Original Retail Price $750). Also included is the Fantasea FML Flat Port 34 with zoom gear to fit the Sony 16-50mm lens. The port lens is in good condition with no scratches or blemishes and the zoom gear is perfect. (original price $400). I also have a cheap tray that served me quite well for a couple of years that I will throw in to whoever buys the housing! (see photo) Fantasea - AOI UWL-09F Wide Angle Wet Lens with protective case and adapter. ($400 o.b.o.) A wonderful wet wide angle lens, fits a 67mm housing port thread. 130 degree field of view. The original price is $700 for a new one, this one is used and has some minor scuffs and one small scratch on the dome. This has not interfered with photos as far as I have noticed! I will try to upload some sample photos that I took with it recently. I used this wet lens with the Sony a6500 and kit 16-50mm lens with very satisfying results! Please direct message me with any questions!
  4. I know terra firma photographers sing the praises of the improvement of Canon 16-35 mm EF 1:2.8L USM Mark III over its predecessor, the Mark II (Which in and of itself was a great lens). But my question, given the substantial difference in cost, is there a substantial difference in quality when it comes to underwater photography? Should I save my money and go for the Mark II? Or would I regret not doling out this much extra on the Mark III?
  5. For sale: Canon EF-S lenses. Both lenses are used but in excellent shape both cosmetically and optically. 1. Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens. 2. Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens Feel free to make a reasonable offer for either lens. The 60mm macro lens is selling on Amazon and B&H for $349. It's great for shooting, obviously, macro. The Sigma lens is an older lens, but a good versatile one. I used it for photographing medium-wide-angle macro shots. It's a versatile lens where I was able to, for instance, frame a turtle or large anemone, then frame a clownfish guarding eggs in the macro mode. Here's some information on the Sigma lens: This is an excellent lens that focuses down to 8.7 inches, or 1:3. Here's what a review from the web says: The best mid-range zoom for Canon EF-S is Sigma 17-70. There have been three versions, original plane jane 17-70, then 17-70 HSM, and now the current 17-70 OS HSM. HSM is Sigma verbiage for fast motor focus, like Nikon AF-S, or Canon USM. The original was pretty slow to focus, so this is a welcome improvement. The HSM and stabilization features are nice, and worth while, but reproduction ratio has decreased with every revision. Originally it was 1:2, then 1:2 point something or other on the HSM, and 1:3 on the OS HSM model. Newer lenses have less macro capability -- one reason to get this lens instead of a newer one. I believe this review is for this model: https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sigma-17-70mm-f2-8-4-os-hsm Given the delays in shipping stuff internationally these days, I'd much prefer to ship these items within the US. I'll figure the cost of shipping via UPS, USPS, or Fedex and we can come to an agreement, hopefully.

  7. I am selling my Tokina 10-17mm fisheye lens with Canon mount The lens has had the hood removed in order to gain more useable focal length range when used with a full frame sensor camera, essentially giving you an extra 1mm without vignetting. Can be used on crop sensor or full frame Canon camera's. This lens is well used and shows signs of cosmetic wear and tear but functions perfectly. There is a very small mark on the front glass element but doesn't show in pictures. I'm looking for £170 + postage

SAGA Trio specifications: Size: 136 x 84 x 73mm Weight: 708 gr/1.6 lbs Weight in Water: 200 gr/.44 pounds Aluminum 6082 Hard anodized, with extra hard on the working areas (Thread and levers) Lenses are Vacuum Sealed This lens revolutionizes all the wet magnification systems now available. You can switch between 0, +5, +10, +15 diopters quickly all with one device! The patented system of two levers makes it possible for photographers to use a very easy system of changing the magnification, even while they are looking through the viewfinder. Trio allows you to reach 4 different power ratios in the minimum time possible, and with maximum optical quality. Manufactured in mechanized aluminum with hard anodizing, Trio has two groups of lenses, one with a +5 diopter and the other with a +10. These two groups can be moved independently, so 4 levels of magnification can be achieved. With the the two levers in the upper position, you can use your lens normally - focusing to infinity as normal without any vignetting. The Trio lens system is designed to be used with macro lenses such as the Canon 100mm or Nikon 105mm, even with some 150 or 180mm lenses, and it can also be used with 60mm macro lenses. Flipping the first lever adds a +5 diopter, second one adds a +10, and with the 2 levers in the lower position stacks the two groups of lenses and for a +15 diopter lens. The lens is attached to any 67mm threaded port. If your port doesn't have a 67mm thread, Saga Dive makes an adapter for any kind of port. Once it is attached, the lens can be moved to any place by rotating, so it can be rotated to any preferred position we prefer, for flexibility with lighting.

  20. Hi, all. I bought this beautiful glass dome and lens combo new in June last year to shoot on a new Sea & Sea MDX-80D housing. A couple of months ago an old friend decided to quit u/w photography and gave me his fisheye lens and another glass port, and I don't need to own two sets of fisheye lenses, zoom gears, and ports. The Optical Dome Port II sells for $1030 at Backscatter, and the Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 fisheye for Canon sells for $469. The zoom gear costs $220. There's no point in separating them, so I'll sell them as a set only. I'm asking $860 plus insured shipping. That's half the retail cost, so please don't bother trying to haggle on this one. Below are links to a few of my shots taken with this dome and lens. https://www.flickr.com/photos/firststage/43257166981/in/photolist-28UuhFP https://www.flickr.com/photos/firststage/29387465798/in/photolist-LLSrJN https://www.flickr.com/photos/firststage/29387476868/in/photolist-LLSv2E Thanks for looking. Please let me know if you have any questions.
  21. Venus Optics came out with a new macro lens, the 100mm macro with a 2:1 magnification. I was wondering how difficult it is to use a lens like that? I read one (land-based) review where they said a tripod is needed. I read another report that showed examples of hand-held pictures. Now I'm confused. For those who don't know the lens here a quick introduction: Available for Sony, Nikon and Canon. 100mm focal length Manual Focus only Min. focusing distance: 24.7cm (for the 2x magnification) Price: 449 USD. Here is a link from the manufacturer: https://www.venuslens.net/product/laowa-100mm-f-2-8-2x-macro-apo/ Anybody around that uses this lens? Anybody aware of a housing / port that the lens fits in and has a gear sleeve for the manual focus? Does it even make sense to try or is 2:1 magnification too difficult to shoot handheld underwater? I'm debating if I should try that or go with the 100mm macro 1:1 from Canon. Looking forward to hear opinions and facts!

  23. I'm inspired to clean out more of my gear closet after selling my Z-240 strobes + my backup strobe. Spring cleaning 2019 a few days late. First up, a little used Nauticam 8.5" acrylic dome with shade, rated for 150m. With original box and accessory. The dome has some typical wear, but no scratches or nicks. Nothing that shows up in my photos even when there's a lot of blue in the frame. I'm sure if someone else is asked to describe it they'll say it is very clean. But I want to be conservative so nobody is unhappy after purchase. The bottom plastic lens shade has the usual wear, as that's where the camera sits on a table or floor. - New $590 Asking $350 Next, Nauticam Compact Port Base & Compact Port 30. This is my backup macro port, didn't see a lot of use. Here I'll say it is mint. Glass is perfect and no marks on the body. Together this is for a 60mm macro. If you add a Compact Port Extension 40 it'll work for a 105mm macro. So 3 small parts for 2 macro lenses. This compact port system has 1 advantage over the normal Port 60, if you unscrew the base from the port, you can essentially nest the port inside the base. Which makes it about 1/2 the size, saving a lot of room in your carryon bag. - New base $240 Asking $150 - New port 30 $200 Asking $125 - Buy both together for $250 Lastly I've my backup wide and macro do it all, Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 Macro HSM DC lens for Nikon. Wow that's a mouthful. And the matching Nauticam zoom gear. This is a useful lens for those dive where there are both big animals and macro subjects. Or if you've have not idea what might be interesting. Ever asked a divemaster if this is a macro or wide dive, and they shrug and say it depends. Not helpful This is the lens for those dives. I don't have the box for this anymore, but the glass is absolutely clean since it is only ever used behind a dome. Never used on land. - New lens $500 and gear $175. Asking $300 All prices does not include shipping, but it does include PayPal fees. So these are pretty good deals. And I ship fast, you can ask the buyers of my Inon strobes. Thanks. Happy diving and shooting!
  24. Selling an Olympus PTWC-01 wide angle lens in good condition. The lens has a magnification of 0.6 giving a 100 degree angle of view underwater. This lens has the standard 67mm thread and will fit any housing that accepts 67mm wet lenses. This is a large and solid lens which is very sharp across the entire frame including the corners. Using an RX100 I could zoom through the entire range and the image was still sharp. The optical quality is better than the Inon UWL-100 series. A stainless steel saddle is fitted to allow a lanyard to be attached. There are a few micro scratches on the front glass - see photos. These have no effect on image quality. Priced at US$280 including shipping to US, UK and Western Europe (the item is in Australia). Shipping time is approx 7 to 10 days. Please contact me at: neilwin@iinet.net.au
  25. Great condition lens for wide angle. Glass is perfect. Evidence of use along outside rim, side of outside rim and back rim (see photos). All dings are cosmetic only.
