  12. Selling my Ikelite DS161 strobe / video light combo. It comes complete with the smart charger, as well as a 1" Ball Mount Mark II and removable diffuser with protective cap. If you're using a fiber optic sync cable, I'm also selling my Ikelite Fiber-Optic Converter for DS Substrobes and LED Triggers here too. The DS161 features a depth rating of 328'. The DS161 is offered here with an NiMH battery pack, a smart charger with a US/North American plug, and a The strobe has a power rating of 160 watt-sec and a guide number of 38-76' at ISO 100, depending on whether you're underwater or above water. It provides a wide 90° angle of coverage, which is increased to 100° when you add the supplied diffuser for softening the light output. The 4800K color temperature is even warmer than daylight and restores hues that get absorbed underwater, bringing vibrancy and color accuracy back to your images. When combined with a compatible TTL system, the DS161 automatically adjusts brightness to provide ideal TTL flash exposure--whether you're shooting at macro, portrait, or wide-angle focal lengths. Manual exposure mode is also available to give you greater control. The strobe is equipped with an Ikelite ICS-5 bulkhead connector, which is also present on many Ikelite underwater camera housings, and requires a sync cord. Additionally, you can use the optional #4401 Fiber Optic Adapter to convert the bulkhead to a fiber-optic cable port for manual exposure. The NiMH battery pack features 7.2V of output power and a 3300mAh capacity. It provides up to 225 full-power flashes per charge, with a recycle time of 1.5 sec. The bright, concentrated, 5W LED aiming light provides ample illumination for use as a focusing aid or a nighttime dive light. The LED turns off and on when the strobe is fired, keeping your photos free of bright spots. Total selling price for everything is $795 USD - retail price $949

  17. I'm selling my Ikelite Fiber-Optic Converter for DS Substrobes and LED Triggers. I used this to attach a fiber optic sync cable to my Ikelite DS161 Strobe (also for sale) An upgrade to their 4401 Fiber Optic Adapter, Ikelite's Fiber-Optic Converter does everything that the previous model did and is also sensitive enough to work with internal electrical-to-optical LED flash triggers. These triggers are found in Sea & Sea and Nauticam housings, among others. The converter adapts the electrical bulkhead of any Ikelite DS strobe into a fiber-optic port. Updated electronics make this converter capable of accurately reading the LED signals for fast and reliable triggering. Like the original Fiber Optic Adapter, it is also compatible with any system where the camera's built-in flash can be detected by a fiber-optic cable. The converter automatically configures itself for compatibility with both pre-flash and non pre-flash camera modes, so there's no setting of small switches or confusion over number of pre-flashes. Simply turn on your strobe and take one picture to configure. This device is a non-TTL, manual exposure unit capable of supporting a single strobe. It works with Ikelite's DS50, DS51, DS125, DS160, and DS161 Substrobes. The converter features a depth rating of 295'. Converts the electrical bulkhead of any Ikelite DS strobe into a fiber-optic port. Offers all the capabilities and functionality of the earlier 4401 Fiber Optic Adapter. Features heightened sensitivity for use specifically with Sea & Sea, Nauticam, and other housings with internal electrical-to-optical LED flash triggers. These devices translate camera's electrical signals into a series of LED flashes, which are much dimmer than traditional built-in camera flash. Updated electronics make this converter capable of accurately reading the LED signals for fast and reliable triggering. Compatible with any system where the camera's built-in flash can be detected by a fiber-optic cable. Automatically configures itself for compatibility with both pre-flash and non pre-flash camera modes, so there's no setting of small switches or confusion over number of pre-flashes. Simply turn on your strobe and take one picture to configure. Non-TTL, manual exposure device capable of supporting a single strobe. The strobe's output may be adjusted using its built-in manual power settings. Works with Ikelite's DS50, DS51, DS125, DS160, and DS161 Substrobes. Compatible with the following fiber-optic cables: Ikelite 4501, INON Optical D L-type, Sea & Sea 50107 L-type, Olympus PTCB-E02, Nauticam to INON 26211, Nauticam to Sea & Sea 26212. Sale price: $85 USD, Retail Price: $125 USD

  21. Hi all! Thanks for accepting me in the forum. I have read that a lot of people had troubles with the strobes YS-D2, but I haven't found anybody with my issue. Let's see if somebody can help me. The last two times I had use my underwater set up (Canon G7X, Nauticam Housing NA-G7X and strobe S&S YS-D2) the strobe is shooting always in maximum power, which is very inconvenient for macro. I've checked all the modes and I have the same problem with all of them (except of the Manual with pre-flash). I wonder if it's a problem with the batteries as they are brand new or the power selector. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thank you very much for your attention and replies.
  22. Hi Folks. I was fortunate enough to place third in Intermediate Traditional Macro in this year's Monterey Shootout, and my prize was a brand new in box Ikelite DS161 strobe + battery. Unfortunately, I am not an Ikelite shooter. However, I do want to parlay my winnings into replacing my very very temperamental Sea & Sea YS-D2s (non J). To be clear this is the strobe head + 1 battery together in the box. I will happily part with the strobe+battery for $900 USD shipped to the continental US. I can do PayPal or Venmo. I know I don't have a ton of posts (mostly a lurker) so for vetting purposes my info: My ebay user ID is automaton3. My website is www.drewwilsonphotography.com My Facebook account is http://www.facebook.com/drew.wilson.7798 Please let me know if you have any questions!
  23. Recently I have been diving while using Sea & Sea YS-D2 strobe. After 2 weeks of using the strobe it stopped firing (never flooded the strobe and used enelopes fully charged batteries, btw, I always shoot in manual). The constant light was still functional but the strobe flash just stopped firing. This was on Grand Cayman and my only option was to purchase a display model from Cathy Church shop in Georgetown. The new strobe survived another 3 weeks of photographing but I noticed that the recycle time of it started to increase. Other problem I found on both strobes was that when firing the strobe consecutively 10-15 times the strobe would stop firing and would need to recycle for about 10-15 seconds after which time it would start firing again. This happened on both strobes. Spoke with Sea & Sea today and their tech told me that that was not normal. Anyone had a similar experience? These strobes are $700 a piece and I am afraid they will not last me long time. How do these compare to Inon strobes?
  24. hello! here for sale this YS-D2 used (about 10 dives) with some mark on the body but works perfectly. i am selling because I have now an ikelite ds161 with electrical connetion. original box, diffusers and silicone grease included 450€
  25. Hi, It seems that the enthusiasm for a better/cheaper snoot never runs out. I usually find it hard to point the beam of light on the subject, and even a slow moving one escapes by the time I get it. So I wanted a light guide that will show were snoot actually points to. I tried the 10Bar laser focus and found it unreliable and inaccurate. I did design a version where the laser projected on the same line as the strobe using beam splitter. But the laser was annoying. Then I realized that the same design can work with a strong focus torch. The benefit is that I get to see the whole beam and that it is much brighter than the little red laser dot. Here is the result. It is a modular snoot that can either have a fixed head (at different beam diameters) or a fiber-optic attachment that can be manipulated by hand. An example of a photo made with this snoot. I had 12-50mm (Olympus EM-1) + wet diopter lens (nauticam CMC2). The focus light was on red, and my dive buddy was aiming the optic fiber snoot at individual skeleton shrimps.... Would love to hear your comments and suggestions. The design is uploaded to https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3749151
