Tokina 10-17mm vs Canon 10-22mm for Canon 7D

Hi, I'm looking at getting a wide angle lense (I can only afford one wide angle and one macro set-up atm, so both is not an option). The top 2 contenders seem to be the Tokina 10-17mm and the Canon 10-22mm. I hope to shoot larger animals like whales, sharks, large schools and to a lesser extend some reefscapes and wrecks. The Tokina seems to be the more popular lense, but I'm concerned about the ballooning that comes with the fish eye effect. Any advice or experience is appreciated. Thanks. -

All gear in working and perfect condition. The only exception is the macro lens (SMC-1) has some hard water marks on the lens from the pre ious owner. Due to system upgrade I'm selling this brute!... You know the brand - built like a tank - vacuum system faultless - simplicity and quality over finnicky plastic controls! Heinrich Weinkamp TTL converter (never used) and 2 nikonos bulkheads. Ports and house shows marks of wear (from about 400 dives) but no visible scratches on acryllic (Macro port has only 20 dives since last polish - Wide angle about the same). Minor post-production modification to vacuum indicator - makes it MUCH easier to see diodes. No defects to electronics or hardware. Reach out for more detailed pictures. Just having returned from a couple of excellent weeks diving in Bonaire, I wanted to share a couple of thoughts: First - Big Thanks. I had a couple of "issues" with my camera gear during the trip. Post to Wetpixel and PMs were answered really quickly and helpfully by a raft of people. While not wanting to embarrass anyone - or miss anyone too - thanks especially to Chris, Tom, Pavel and Oskar at Retra for advice on a range of diverse issues. You guys are brilliant and kept me relatively calm and relatively sane. Excellent advice, quick replies, thoughtful ideas..... I have written this before, but I really do think think Wetpixel is an excellent community. Folks are so good to share their advice, experience and knowledge freely and helpfully. And, even better, WP seems to suffer with almost none of the utter cr*p and abuse that seems to ruin so many other forums (check out the BBC football (soccer) Have Your Say site!). Moving on (and again, apologies if I have't thanked anyone who chipped in)..... Like many on the forum I've gone from DX cameras (Nikon D100, D200, D300) to FX (D800) and have now done about 100 dives back on DX with a D500. Some conclusions which I thought worth passing on: FX vs DX - DX setups are slightly cheaper: a DX body costs less than an FX. - DOF is better on DX which is especially helpful on macro. - Though I was concerned that moving back to DX I would miss much of the image quality that I had on the D800, this has proved not to be the case. D500 DX is excellent. I must admit I don't make mega-prints and a lot of my output I (try) sell via agencies. No problems getting images accepted following the switch. I can't speak of course for the D850. - DX is easier on the WA port issue. I really liked the Sigma 15mm and the Nikkor 16-35 for the D800. The Sigma was easy to "port" but the 16-35 was, in my view, a bit of a devil requiring a 230mm huge dome port. (I've never tried though the Sea and Sea converter). That port was expensive and, for me, hard for travelling on European baggage allowances. By contrast the DX only needs either a 100 dome port or the DP-FE size. - The Nikkor 8-15mm works really well on DX between 15 and approx 11. Image quality is great. It works equally well with the DP100 or DP-FE - I'm still playing around with a 1.4 TC and, as I have reported elsewhere, I've found that the classic Kenko 1.4 DG Telepro300 won't work with my D500 and the 8-15. It does work with my Z6 but not on a D5. Go figure. As you might have read elsewhere and as others have confirmed, the Kenko 1.4 TC DGX will work. I'll get hold of one soon and try it. Bonaire - If you are thinking of diving Bonaire: I've been going since the early 2000s and found the reef this time around in the best health I have seen for some years. Definite signs of coral growth; work by the local agency, SINAPA, at coral growing; new anemones around with Spotted Cleaner Shrimps on them (not seen them for years) and, generally, reefs with clouds of brown chromis and the usual suspects going about their lives. - Snooting: if you fancy a stab at shooting, Bonaire is great place to try it out with lots of macro life. I say "stab" meaning I would encourage folks not to stab themselves in frustration over snooting. UW photog is tough enough dealing with moving critters, moving camera, moving photographer, moving currents, viz, blah blah. Snooting adds a whole new area of pain. But when you get it right... Sweeeeet.... a couple of pics attached. - We did all shore diving with tanks from Dive Friends. Friendly, very convenient with filling stations all over the west side of Bonaire. I can recommend them. We didn't do any boat dives. We never used DMs or guides. Navigation on Bonaire is easy - and the critters are not hard to find. Pedersen cleaner shrimps, Spotted Cleaner Shrimps, Yellowline Arrowcrabs, Gobies, the occasional whip coral shrimp, drums, jawfish..... Well just some thoughts

Now I have gotten my new setup (Nauticam and Fujifilm XT-2), I need to sell parts of my current setup. I'm selling a fully equipped and working configuration built around the Olympus EPL-7 camera with the PTWC-01 wide angle wet lens from Olympus. I bought it in Kuala Lumpur in November 2016 at Divers Den, a shop specialized in underwater photography. I will provide all the receipts. The housing has been always very carefully maintained, never been flooded and without scratch. I have dived with it 110 times or so. I can share some recent wide-angle shots and some macro stuff done with the CMC-1 from Nauticam (which I'm not selling by the way). Hello, I am selling my Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ including front and rear caps together with the Nauticam Zoom and Macro Gear #36147 O1250-Z EZ. The items are like new, since I bought them together with my housing. However, since I like it much more extreme and always shoot fish-eye or supermacro, I only used this lens one time in a lake. The lens is the perfect allrounder, since together with the zoom gear you can use the entire zoom range from 12 to 50mm and also can go into the macro mode (see picture). So, you basically have everything in one lens, which is especially go when you only have one dive at the particular location or when you don't know what you will see/you are after. I am asking for 450€ plus fees for insured & tracked shipping and PayPal. Since this is a private sale, everything is offered as is and I can not give any warranty. Underwater photographers who know their stuff (or have a great photography gear guru like I have) know that the old but good Sigma 14mm f3.5 lens is one of the sharpest wide-angle, rectilinear lenses around. I’ve been a professional underwater photographer for a long while, and my guru (Ryan Canon at Reef Photo) recommended this hard-to-find lens for wide-angle shooting with my Nikon D800 camera. Being my usual overzealous self, I bought this lens on Ebay a couple of months ago, but then found another len in even better condition. This lens takes great images and the autofocus works just fine, even with my new Nikon D800 camera. Note that this is an older lens than the newer Sigma 14mm f2.8 and is considered sharper, and better for underwater photography (and likely topside photography). There are two things to know before you buy this lens. There is a small scratch on the lens. I can't see that this scratch affects the images taken with the lens. You can't even see the scratch unless you view the lens at a certain angle. I took dozens of photos to show the scratch on the lens -- you can finally see it in the last image in this listing. The lens cap/cover is not the original lens cap/hood that comes with this lens. It's something I fashioned out of another lens hood and lens cap. I bought this lens and it did not come with a lens cap. It will be difficult to find another lens cap that fits this perfectly. The one I've fashioned will work OK but is by no means perfect. It is simply a cover that falls off, not like the original cap/hood that stays on. You can likely put some rubber or wetsuit material on the inside of this hood to make it stay on. I just kept the lens in the lens case or camera bag. Otherwise, the lens is in great shape and I am selling it for exactly what I bought it for ($255 plus 3% for Paypal purchases for a total of $263), which is a pretty good deal. Condition: GOOD Condition Comments: Lens contains moderate cosmetic wear and light internal dust. Lens also contains lightly scratched glass. Lens cap/hood is not the original and does not fit well. I'm chilling in Changi on my way back to England. I'll eventually process my pictures, but I wanted to thank Shannon Conway and Graham Abbot (diving4images) for a great workshop in Tulamben. I have never seen so many ghost pipefishes... ... or Nauticam housings! Graham is a hard act to follow, but Megumi Kaneko was up to the task at Mimpi Menjangan. I think that I'm coming to grips with the D800: This is more than can be said for my frustrations at the (by all accounts continuous) Denpasar gridlock that left me in fear of missing my flight this afternoon!
