dwloop 0 Posted October 12, 2005 I just had a conversation with Ryan Canon about this very subject. I ordered the #4074.1 that will mount to the bottom of the strobe arm at the housing handle (Like the Manual controller does for those of us that used them before eTTL). That way I can position the strobes without moving the focus light, at least thats the plan !. I'll let you know how it works in a few days B) . Dave
huguito 0 Posted October 12, 2005 I use Ikelite's holder for a Mini C light mounted in the first segment of the arms conecting to the housing handles. You just need to get the long ball posts as they give you more room to place the light without getting in the way of your arms. The light can be placed in the inside of the handles going almost over the port or in the outside coming to an almost 45 degrees angle to your line of sight . The mini C lights have a little of a "hot" spot but sliding a thin clear plastic sheet between the front ring and the lens difuses the light enough for very close shots. The other advantage i find was price, the light is less than $40 and the holder is about thesame. You can remove the light easily under water if you need to use it as a dive light with one hand. dwloop 0 Posted October 13, 2005 Already have the long ball mounts, I was using a manual controller before I got the coversion to eTTL. Thanks for the tips! I didn't want to spring for a $425 special modeling light right now... Thanks again!!! Dave
ulcs 0 Posted October 13, 2005 Stay tuned, Ultralight has something in the works for adding spotting lights to their arms and base adapters, even those that fit into the Ikelite handles. Might be 6 weeks or so as it is still on the drawing board; but will be a reality. Triple clamps do ok if you dont need to move one of the three components but as soon as you loosen it then all three balls move I will keep you posted. TTL is convenient but it does not work well in all situations. I also look forward to seeing what Terry has in the works. User request! forget the Velcro retaining system. After losing two lights I started using electrical tape and duct tape to keep the PCA on the universal light holder. that did the trick!
kdietz 0 Posted October 13, 2005 The best thing about Ikelite's iTTL module is the ability to still use manual control of your strobes....just push the buttons next to your left thumb instead of reaching for the manual controllers....getting rid of the manual controllers also lightens and cleans up your rig....plus you can still use iTTL for macro if you want Karl
Chris Bangs 0 Posted October 14, 2005 thanks Karl. I am still a dinosaur using ancient strobes! This new technology may actually convince me to get some new strobes! Actually I wish there was a strobe available with step less control like the ones I use in my studio! now that would really rule!

Although I use the Canon version - eTTL, it is the same. And very slick!! Just press the buttons to switch to manual and then adjust the power from full down to -3 1/2 stops in 8 increments! No messing with the strobes or manual controllers. It is not stopless but close enough. Dave

Lucky me, I just read it before I was in the way to order the long ball mounts and the triple clamps, but since my modeling led light just started to makes problems last night dive I'll wait to see the new solution.
