Arnon_Ayal 1 Posted October 15, 2005 Hi, I just flooded my SB-105 , I don't know the exact reason but I suspect it’s was a very small leak during the time I put the equipment in fresh water after the actual dive since the strobe worked well during the dive. Any way, the battery chamber looks destroyed, before I'll started to looks for someone that can fixed it here (to sent it to the state and back will cost too much probably) do someone have an experience with such a situation? How much it can cost? Is it can be repair usually? Are the battery chamber is isolated from the electronics?
Starbuck 0 Posted October 15, 2005 Hey Aaron - I would email / call UW photo tech.. a sponsor here. Ask for Fred or Dave...they should be able to provide you some of the details on repair, shipping, etc. M.
UWPhotoTech 0 Posted October 16, 2005 Typical repairs run about $90 Labor plus parts, the battery compartment is isolated from the inside electronics. With this type of flood typically the terminals only would need to be replaced. Along with the internal o-rings parts would run about $35, so your full repair should end up being around $125. This is of course assuming that the water did not get to the circuit boards.
Arnon_Ayal 1 Posted October 17, 2005 Thanks for your help. The situation looks better now, After few hours of cleaning the batteries compartment and filing the contacts its seems that there is no water in the electronics part and the damage is to the door of the batteries compartment (the insider one with the contacts on it), the metal of the some of the contacts was destroyed by the batteries acid. Anyway I managed to operate the strobe with 2 small springs stacked in the door instead of the original destroyed contacts so it's seems I'll need only to replace this door (and the O-ring of course) or if I won't find this part I'll improvise some contacts.
