Hey, guys! I'm interested to know how (and when) you found Wetpixel. Leave your message here...

Well lets see. I stopped working on liveaboard boats in the Pacific in May of 2004 and discovered the internet!

Was searching for underwater photo contests on Google and wetpixel came up. I entered that contest and started reading some of the threads and decided i could give some good insight seeing as i had done nothing but take UW photos for the previous 5 years...but i didn't know jack about digital other than scanning my slides. This sight became an invaluable resource to me in figuring out how to get the best out of my scans as i had trouble ever getting them to look the same as my glossy, saturated Fuji film.

Ever since then wetpixel has become an addiction and i am honoured to now be a mod!

Thanks for the last 18 months of great community interaction.

Mike

You can thank Jason Heller. He recommended it to the audience at one of his talks at the Celebrate the Sea Underwater Photography festival in Singapore earlier this year.

Hi all,

I was looking up all the material I could find about High-Def video on the web and I came across a link to your site. I think it was from either Video Uni or SonyHDV info..

Is this public? I was recommended by Frogfish and Craig Jones after videouniversity went downhill.

I found this site when searching for a housing. Since then, it's been a daily habit to visit.

I think it was from something I read somewhere - possibly Underwater photography mag (the one on the net by Pete Rowlands). I'm a long time viewer but don't get chance to post very much. I love the site though

Referred to from a Dutch uw photo website (cant remember which), and/or the UW-photo mailinglist.

The recommandation was split between wetpixel and digidiver. Wetpixel's interface is much better, so i started posting and reading here initially, and havent looked back.

An underwater photo competition in digideep was mentioned in an Israeli scuba forum and I follow the wetpixel link in the digideep site here.

Ditto, did my first photo dive with a rental camera, the film got lost in the mail. So, I wanted to see about buying my own camera. Loved the idea of a digital as I could processs the pics myself.

I came across Wetpixel way back in late 1999 or early 2000 after following the Underwater Photo Webring from my site! That was when David Breitigam (sp?) had it (as Herb would say, BE). I didn't post in the forums, but I would visit the site to soak up the digital news.

Some bastards on another forum said to get the hell off of their list, it was for film shooters only...."go to Wetpixel". Now their list is almost exclusively digi. So here I am. Been two years. Now those two chat amongst themselves, probably swapping spit among other things.

anyone remember when steves-digicams had an uw forum? how about when alan cabrera was importing gray market underwater photo gear?..........must have been sometime around late 2000 or early 2001...............anyway, just prior to purchasing my c4040 and ds 50.......and the demise of steves-digicams underwater photo forum........

btw still shooting the c4040............and it's still smarter than me.......

I found out about it through a google search when i started my job at Fisheye in Cayman in 2000 as I had no idea about UW photo and yet just scored a job doing it.

I became a strong follower after I created digitallywet.com as a teaching resource. Shortly after I was hooked as a daily visitor after having been a digideep member for a while i saw the link everyday and followed it. So sometime in 2002 maybe.

so mixed results .. Google and Digideep.

I cant remeber for sure, I found wetpixel sometime between october 2003 and january 2004. Either I saw a link at digitdeep(I know I knew about Digideep before I knew about wepixel) or somone on another web forum pointed me here. Now a'days, you search for anything related to the ocean and wetpixel is on the first page.

We can do that? Cool. I could really use a dummies guide to moderating at wetpixel.
