imp 0 Posted October 29, 2005 Hi, i'm planing to get a macro 105 f2.8. Cld u guys share with me ur experiences on these 2 lens.
Rocha 0 Posted October 29, 2005 I have the Nikon 105 and like it a lot. I didn't use it too much with my F100 because it was a bit slow to focus, but it flies on my D2x. I think you will find it a bit slow on the D70, but it is a great lens for macro, super sharp, really nice quality glass. I would only get the Sigma if it was internal focussing (HSM), but I just checked on the Sigma site, and it is not.
TimG 62 Posted October 29, 2005 Does anyone have any experience of the Nikkor 105 on the D100?
james 0 Posted October 29, 2005 I do - what would you like to know? The Nikkor is an incredibly sharp lens and a lot of fun to use on the D100. Cheers James
TimG 62 Posted October 29, 2005 Thanks James. I have the Subal flat port for the Nikkor 60mm. Do you know what extension I would need to house the 105 with that port - presuming that is practical? Are there any AF focussing issues with the 105/D100 combination? Thanks Tim
Rocha 0 Posted October 29, 2005 Hi Tim, I don't have a D100, but I do have a Subal housing and can answer your question. I use my 60 with an FP-90 flat port (should be the same as yours) and add an extension ring 33 (EXR-33) to use the same port with the 105mm. The focussing of the 105 is slower than the 60, and it hunts more in low light. Luiz
davephdv 0 Posted October 29, 2005 I use the 105 with the 60 mm flat port (manual focus model) and a 33 mm ext. ring. With Subal housings.

imp 0 Posted October 30, 2005 so shd i get the sigma or nikkor or shd i even consider the tamron 90Di macro F2.8?
Rocha 0 Posted October 30, 2005 I think you should get the Nikon, the price difference is not that great and I think Nikon's glass is better anyways. Luiz
Matetes 0 Posted October 30, 2005 I've used both lenses, and even the Tamron 90 mm. IMHO, from an optical point of view I can see no difference between Nikon and Sigma. Even I would say that 105 Sigma handles better the very low light situations.... But you should take into account two points: -at full extension, the Sigma is longer than the Nikon ; - the Sigma is a lot noisier than the Nikon, and sometimes scares fishes and critters... Concerning the Tamron, I believe that the new version is really very, very good... It's fast and clear... In any case, any of the three lenses is good enough for uw photography. Cheers matetes
imp 0 Posted October 30, 2005 hehehe.. bought the Nikkor 105, an hour ago. ... now playing with it.. hehehe.. test test...
NWDiver 43 Posted October 30, 2005 I have the D100 with the Nikkor105. In low light it can have focus issues. I have added the manual focus for these situations.
frogfish 5 Posted November 5, 2005 A wide-angle aiming light is one solution to low light focusing problems with the 105 mm. I use a mini-Hartenberger with a wide-angle reflector mounted on top of the housing for all macro, day or night. The Hartenberger has adjustable power settings, which can be dialed in by twisting the disc at the back of the light. At night, at low(25% or 50%) illumination, the light works as a general housing-mounted dive light, which I kick up to 75% or 100% when it's time to shoot. Using manual focus too, the aiming light makes it much easier to see whether the image is really in focus, and where. Frogfish
