sharky1961 2 Posted November 3, 2005 Hello, which do you recommand for the nikon d70s the Subal or the sealux? also regarding Ports and extensionrings, I have the nikon 10,5 , 12-24, 16, 17-35, 60 and 105mm. I like to do makro with 2x telekonverter in manual focus. I know the Subal is more expensive but I don't care about that I want the best of the 2 or is there not much difference? The seacam system is too expensive for me because of the domeports and other items. Rob
james 0 Posted November 3, 2005 Hi Rob, If you are located in the US, then there is a better dealer network and customer support base for Subal. If you're in Europe, then the Sealux offers many of the same features, but for a better value. I have not personally used either housing. HTH James
AndyBarker 6 Posted November 3, 2005 HI ROB, I shoot D70 in a seacam housing & their is not any difference in price with the subal I looked long & hard before I spent my hard earned cash & their is more to it than the cost. You need to see how they feel in the hand & how the controls fit your,e fingers in my case the seacam felt right from the frist time I picked it up. The ports are also on par with the subal & by speaking to your,e local stockist you may find the price iis not as much as you think but I can tell you I thing it is an amazing piece of kit & Im so gald I have one its EXELLENT!!!! Hope this helps, Andy.
Trevor Rees 1 Posted November 3, 2005 I am slowly looking at as many housing choices as I can. There is no Sealux agent in the UK so I am not sure I will ever see one of these. They have a reasonable web site though and prices look lower than Subal. The only thing that puts me off the Subal is that on their D70 housing you only get one strobe mounting point which is on the housing. The Subal handles are rather thin and do not look suitable for having a strobe mounting point attatched. For a well regarded manufacturer this oversight makes me discount this particular Subal. I believe others photographers have removed the handles and added different tray and arm systems which would not be to my liking. The D70 Subals brought in by Ocean Optics in London at least now have two Nikonos strobe bulkheads but I am not sure this is standard elsewhere. With regard to Seacam, yes I believe they are the most expensive when ports and accesories are added. I',m not sure if housing a D70 in a Seacam is cost justified. I've only seen a Seacam Canon 1DS housing but it was enough to convince me that with their viewfinder options this is the most impressive system I have yet seen. dbh 0 Posted November 3, 2005 I bought ULCS handles for my Subal. They are rubber coated and very comfortable. I can only vouch for Subal....but it is a quality rig! You use the same dome for the 10.5 and 12-24. I add an extension when using the 12-24. You can buy one port for the 60 and add an extension for use with the 105. I elected to get the separate port for the 105. With the same extension I use for my dome, I can add a 2X teleconverter to either the 60 or the 105. Alex_Mustard 0 Posted November 3, 2005 If it was me. I would go for either the Subal or the Hugyfot D70 housing. With the Nexus third! The Seacam is bigger than it needs to be (and the price differential compared with the camera inside is too much for the system). For more expensive and bigger cameras I like the Seacam housings, but for a relatively cheap D70 I'm not convinced. The Sealux is fine, but ergonomically it is not as nice as the Subal or Hugy (e.g. the shutter release, aperture control and shutter speed). The Subal and Hugy are both compact and durable. Sealux sell little outside of Western Europe. Subal have a wider dealer network for support. Hugy don't have a great dealer network either, but they are coming back. Matetes 0 Posted November 4, 2005 Why only Subal or Sealux? Why not Hugyfot? It's a very good, sizeable and confortable housing... Cheers Matetes
