Ron Boyes 0 Posted November 23, 2005 Hi All, I would appreciate if someone could explain the Macro size for competitions, for example the Wetpixel comp states Macro as 7x5 inches or smaller and the Beneath the Sea as 1:6 or smaller. Ok - how do I tell if the image I choose will qualify? thanks and regards ron
Rocha 0 Posted November 24, 2005 Hi Ron, In wetpixel rules, your real image should be no larger than 7x5 inches, that means that if you photographed a fish that is 8 inches long (filling the frame with it) it does not qualify. The BTS rules say that the image should not be greater than 6 times the sensor size (1:6). They probably brought this rule from the film days, so the subject should be no larger than 35x6 or 210mm wide (probably much smaller than this if it is only part of the frame), which corresponds to about 8 inches. I hope this helps, Luiz

So it is an estimate by the photographer of the subject size? and has nothing to do with the image at all? is this correct thanks ron
Rocha 0 Posted November 25, 2005 Yep, that's correct. Or better yet, it is an estimate of the real image size. If the real image is larger than 7'' wide (including the subject or part thereof) it is not macro (according to wetpixel contest rules). Luiz
