Your ONE best shot of 2005

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am not sure if it is my best shoot this year, but I will think it is my unusual bet shoot.

It is a diver in the lunar like landscape of Abismo Anhumas (Anhumas Abyss), a cave in western Brazil.

You can see a few more pictures of the series here: http://www.marcelokrause.com.br/abismo/

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Best regards,

My favorite because this guy was out in the open and felt vulnerable so he found this as his hiding place and it was a great background for him. He was lots of fun to photograph

What a GREAT thread!

I have to add my "WOW!" to Marcelo for the photos at that link! FWIW, I think all of the underwater photos are/would be better in B&W than color (I find that the greens distract from the dramatic lighting without really adding anything), whereas the ones above water have quite dramatic color. Then again, you're obviously a far better photographer than I am, so feel free to totally ignore my input! ;)

Hi all,

I think this thread is a winner. Here's why. Not only are we seeing a great selection of images, but many of these are giving me new ideas for my own selfish use. Keep em coming! Ya!! ;)

Thank you all for the kind words about my photos. The beauty of the place really helps a lot. Bruce, I also think that most of the uw pictures would be great in BW.

Proving that even the most common of subjects can create a special image. This parrotfish was beautifully posed in the classic cleaning pose. The parrotfish and cleaners seemed so serene and intent upon their task as they allowed to glide within what would normally be their flight distance.

Mariano (mmb), love the portrait! Great eyes.

Marelo, I love the B+Ws; I agree, much U/W looks great in B+W... it lends itself to strong compositions very well. Alex's opening shot grabbed me in the same way.

All the best, james

Hey, I think I know that fish.

Tell me if you think this is the same individual frogfish as the one pictured above:

All the warts and spots are in the same places.

Perhaps it likes posing in front of Subal-housed 20D's.

Hey guys -

Just back from AU and Detached Reefs - awesome (story forthcoming in Fathoms Mag).

I can't possibly pick a single image, but it would be equally difficult to pick 5 or even 10 "best" shots. Maybe best WA or best supermacro or best fish behavior - but just the best? I guess my favorite shot is usually one from my last few dives. When I sit in front of a coralhead for 90 minutes attempting to nail a shot, that experience makes me incredeidibly partial and is fresh in my mind. Such is the case with these hawkfish. I followed them around a patch of softt coral forever, attempting to frame them against the silky red space. When this moment presented itself to me I was so pleased I almost forgot to press the shutter - I momentarily froze in admiration! It is not technically my best image, the shot was a little overexposed so I worked from a raw file to rescue it. Compositionally I think it ROCKS, and having just shot it last week it is, today, my favorite image of the year.

Hi Kasey,

I can see your picture. And if you think it rocks then I really want to see it!

EDIT: I couldn't see it! But now I can below.
