segal3 0 Posted December 13, 2005 Still trying to figure out old IDs... Corythoichthys intestinalis or Corythoichthys flavofasciatus? Blenny sp... I'm inclined to think Filamentous Blenny Cirripectes filamentosus but it doesn't show the green line on either side of the mouth... Juv./In. Razorfish sp. Iniistius aneitensis or Iniistius tetrazona? Solomons. ~Matt Segal
acroporas 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Thouse are hard. What location?
Rocha 0 Posted December 19, 2005 They are from the Solomon Islands. We had a discussion about them at DDN and decided that the pipefish is C. flavofasciatus and the wrasse is Iniistius pavo. The blenny is nearly impossible without a full body shot. Luiz
conchology 0 Posted January 2, 2006 nice pics, I hope this will help: The blenny is correct: Cirripectes filamentosus, the green line is not so important, the brown/red circle of the eye is. The pipe fish is neither: it seems to be an undescribed species, but already documented in the book: Hippocampes, Kuiter, 2001: as Corythoichthys species from Indonesia. It has the same pattern on the eye and body and black dots on the mouth. The Razorfish is Iniistius pavo, sligthly juvenile. Philippe
segal3 0 Posted January 18, 2006 Thanks Philippe. If you (or others) don't mind...a couple more. (Shoddy photos, just trying to catalog) Is this second one the same 'undescribed species' you mentioned? ~Matt Segal
scubamarli 5 Posted January 19, 2006 Second one is a Network pipefish, I believe: Corythoichthys flavofasciatus Cheers, Marli
scubamarli 5 Posted January 19, 2006 On second thought, whilst looking for the orange spotted one, I found photos of Corythoichthys haematopterus that look a bit closer. Reeftop pipefish. Preety recently described. Then again.... Cheers, Marli
conchology 0 Posted January 22, 2006 I agree with Marli first choice on the second pipefish: the C. flavofasciatus - all is about the 2 vertical stripes on the eyes. This pipefish has different eye - same as C. flavofasciatus The first pipefish is a mystery - I need to do some digging. grtz Philippe
