Leslie 0 Posted January 7, 2006 I've been looking for a new camera for microscope & macro work. Since I already own Nikon I would prefer to go that way if I spend my own money. However, a colleague mentioned that we might be sponsored by Fuji & one of the perks would be a free camera. It won't go underwater so housing is not an issue. Any advice as to which Fuji would be best for micro/macro would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Leslie 0 Posted January 7, 2006 I don't know if we'll get to pick any camera or if we'll be restricted by category or price -- so advice on both types would be great.
MikeVeitch 0 Posted January 7, 2006 Fuji S3!! SLR, i think that is the way to go with micros no? need to change lenses etc?
Leslie 0 Posted January 7, 2006 Micro is done on the microscope so the camera body without a lens is attached to the scope's phototube.
mattdiver 0 Posted January 7, 2006 I suppose you already own the microscope, so you should check what sort of mounts it offers. Since you mention "body without a lens attached", this would point at a SLR camera, and the S3 recommended by Mike is a great piece of kit. BTW, Fuji and Nikon have the same mount system... richorn 0 Posted January 7, 2006 Yeah, I was going to recommend the S3 as well if we were talking dSLR price range. Dynamic range cannot be beat, and it takes standard Nikon lenses if used off the scope. The S3 has a lot of limitations when compared to many other new slr's. but image quality is not one of them. You would have to get a D2X to beat it in the quality of image, IMHO.
Arnon_Ayal 1 Posted January 7, 2006 I'm not an expert in this issue but according to my knowledge most of the digiscoping is dome with P&S cameras and not with DSLR.
Leslie 0 Posted January 7, 2006 I've used both P&S and dslr on scopes. Each has their advantages. I'd like to have a dslr as they're more versatile, the image quality is better, & I've got a ton of Nikon lenses. Some scope users have posted that they prefer the S2 & S3 over Nikons & Canons because they can be controlled through a computer hook up - which would be another plus. Today's rumor is that we will be offered an UW camera. I guess that means a housing (& hopefully strobes & other necessities) will be included. Is there a housing for the S3 or only for the S2? I want to say that Canons do the same with the right software, but I'm not sure. As James said, no housings for the S3, only S2.
mattdiver 0 Posted January 8, 2006 Minor correction. I believe there is a Bruder housing for the S3 pro too...
