Ferg42 13 Posted January 10, 2006 Thanks for the info, Gwangi, I'm just at the point of trying to decide whether to go for a 20D or 5D in an Ikelite housing. I already have the Sigma 12-24 for above-water use & it should work fine on the 5D, but I know its diameter makes it too big to fit in most ikelite ports. 8" dome looks great & I'll be getting one whether it's for the 20D or 5D. Just wondered if there's any news from Ike on accomodating this lens in a port (even if I don't have the zoom, it's better than nothing). Last I heard they were trying to squeeze it in! If there's no chance of getting it in, I might go for the 20D with Sigma 10-20, as the options for full-frame wide zooms which will fit in a port seem to be pretty limited. UWphotoNewbie 1 Posted January 10, 2006 YEEHAH! I'm very pleased to see that the dome works with both the fisheyes (10.5mm) and the WA zooms (12-24mm)! The original info I saw last week had Da Bigga Doma on the port chart indicating that the fisheyes would not work. This is the way it should be as you really want the 10.5 for over/under shots which are easier with the bigger dome. And its a lot easier to carry less ports. Thanks Ike! It looks like you will need different latches to get the dome that close to the housing for the 10.5mm. "#5510.82 port is supplied with #9072.24 low profile port locks to install on the housing. These low profile locks can be used with all Ikelite ports." "We will also offer flat port assemblies and a compact dome to mount on this new stalk system." This is also a welcome development. Perhaps this new port system will become the standard, just like the other housing manufactures. Just when I thought I was done buying ports. Good News! One question: I want to use the 8'' dome with the Nikon 12-24 and the Nikon 10,5 fish eye, sop I need: For the 12-24: The dome - ref: 5510.40 The 12-24 stalk - ref: 5510.12 For the 10,5: The dome - ref: 5510.40 (the same of course - ) The Super Wide Stalk - ref: 5510.10 The low profile port locks to install on the housing - ref: 9072.24 Is correct? The low profile port needs especial installation? Is easy remove it? It can be in the housing with other lens or only with the 10,5 fish eye? Too much questions? ikelite 0 Posted January 12, 2006 "Nutsy" is still changing the page every day. Now the knowledgeable types say we can no longer refer to it as "Da Bigga Doma." They take all of the fun out of this nonsense. The #5510.84 choice, which was to include dome and all three stalk lengths, has been removed to eliminate confusion. Mariano's supposition would require #5510.82 Super Wide port and #5510.16 stalk for the 12-24. Or the #5510.81 for the 12-24 and a #5510.10 stalk for the 10.5 lens. These stalks simply unscrew from the base plate of the dome so change is easy. If anyone understands this, feel free to email <ike@ikelite.com> if you can suggest a better way for me to describe the system. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
james 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Hi Ike, You should refer to your stalks by their length. If a stalk extends the dome by 15mm then call it the 5510.15 If the dome extends by zero inches (like it's as tight as you can squeak it in for the fisheye lenses) then call it 5510.0 Just my advice as suggested. UWphotoNewbie 1 Posted January 12, 2006 One more suggestion. On the finished product there should be some form of labeling system for the stalks. A simple sticker indicating the product number will do. That way users like me with WAAAY too much equipment and who don't use the equipment all the time won't get the stalks mixed up without comparing lengths. Ike...just wanting to confirm it will work on my 20D with the 15 Sigma. Website doesn't list it yet. I know you will get around to it, but just wanted to make sure. I guess my wife can be included in the "knowledgeable type" category. I showed her the new toy on my wish list and her response was 'that's a silly name'.
