Monopod useful ?

Recommended Posts

post-2547-1137277342_thumb.jpgI know al ot of people say a tripod is not worth the hassle. How about a monopod ? Since I already own 2 ultralight arms for my video lights, I can use 1 for macro lighting and the other can me attached to the bottom of my housing acting as a monopod. It's painless since I already own it and folding/extending is a breeze.

Do you think it will be worthwhile ?

I trudge around u/w quite a bit with a tripod, but oddly, never brought a monopod. It just didn't seem like it would do the job for 1 to 2 second exposures.

<shrugs> Hey, give it a try! Can't hurt, it's only a dive.

All the best, James

PS Looking at your attachment photo, I would guess that you'll be kind of close to the bottom.

I don't have any experience with macro and I think keeping things steady will be my biggest challenge.

Most of the marco stuff I see the subject is in the sand, so hopefully the short length of my ultralight arm won't hurt.

Almost anything helps, I think. Land photographers even use body tripods that mount a camera to your chest. Underwater, I've heard that neck sticks help with video. Just take your monopod, bring it back, and brace it against your neck and shoulder.

Hi guys, i use sometimes monopod for shooting macro. But if you need very closeup macro and 2:1 it will be best to use a tripod.

Doh.

Just saw this was posted in the Video Forum. Strike all my still-related comments, I wouldn't begin to have a clue about video and shooting it...

All the best, james
