clarkedje 0 Posted March 14, 2006 I have recently upgraded to a Nikon D70 in an Ikelite housing from my old Sea&Sea DX3000, though the only viable lens I have is the 18-70 with a Dome port. Is this lens only effective for wide angle shots or can it also be used for macro? Any help would be much appreciated Dom
kdietz 0 Posted March 16, 2006 It's a fine lens, but I consider 18mm as on the absolute maximum edge of WA and it's closest focus is only 15" which is approx. 1:6....not very close to 1:1 which most judge as macro. This is a good all around lens to start with, but you'll soon need the extreme ends of true WA and macro. Karl
Starbuck 0 Posted March 16, 2006 Here are some pictures taken with the 18-70 from Mexico. You'll be able to get a good idea of what is possible with this lens. http://homepage.mac.com/mikepalasz/PhotoAlbum9.html M.
Arnon_Ayal 1 Posted March 19, 2006 It’s not a real WA lens or real macro but its somewhere in the middle between this two areas, It’s a good lens for fish portraits and semi WA. For real macro, you will have to use the 60 mm or the 105 mm lens.
