MacBook Pro

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Just sold my third kidney and purchased a 30" & 23" cinema screens (for use with my quad G5) along with the MacBook Pro with 2 Gig RAM.

Prior to this I had a 17" PowerBook and I used the PCMCIA slot for my compact flash reader.

Is there a Compact Flash Reader that can be used in the ExpressCard slot yet?

Thanks

ron

Does the Macbook have the smaller expresscard/34 slot, or the larger expresscard/54 slot?

if it's the smaller, than no CF card reader will ever exist for it.

here's one for SD and related media:

not sure where to buy it.

it's 34. There may be a CF reader, but it won't be internal.

don't sweat it, get one of the little lexar firewire readers. And get one of the short, thin, limp firewire cables they sell at the apple store, 1/2 meter. Great for travel. I have one and carry an ipod adapter and a 6 pin to 4 pin adapter for it.

I agree with Roger. As I carry 12" Powerbooks (no PCMCIA), I've always used Lexar FW readers which are cheap light and reliable - I carry a couple. The iPod (bought when I ran out of hard drive) is an excellent if expensive additional backup and is easily carried in a shirt pocket withh a lot of images on it at the end of a trip.

Alternatively, the new Sandisk Card readers using ESP are almost as fast as the lexar and use USB2.0. I use the 12 in 1 since I use SD, CF and Duo. I get 13-15mb/s downloads on a PB G4. It's even faster on XP for some reason.
