Mick 0 Posted April 4, 2006 Hi Just picked up a Sigma 50mm macro ( EX DG ) and was wondering if anyone can tell me which extension ring to use if any with an Aquatica housing. I am thinking that if I set the lens to limit focus then I would not need an extension but I have not had a chance to check this out yet. Marc Furth 3 Posted April 5, 2006 I wouldn't spend to much money on this Lens till you check it out fully. I bought mine 2 months ago and was very disappointed with the Lens resolution that I sent it back for another hoping it was just a defect, but it was not. The new Lens replacement was very soft and it was very noticeable compared to my Tamron 90 and 180 mm Macro Lens I own. I read nothing but praises about this Lens all over the net and that's why I bought one. I'd be very interested to hear from others if their having the same experience? I sold mine on E Bay last night. Marc
Mick 0 Posted April 5, 2006 Marc I took a few shots with it last night (mainly macro) and found it to be very sharp. I have the canon 100 macro and at this point think that the sigma is as sharp as the canon. I have heard stories of bad copies but I would think that you would have to be pretty unlucky to get two. I too have heard great reports about this lens and am happy with the results. Regards Mick Eidam
Steve Simonsen 0 Posted April 5, 2006 You don't want to enable the limiter. You should check Aquatica's website for lens port combinations and get an extension ring if you need it. I do not have experience with that particular lens.
james 0 Posted April 5, 2006 I purchased a Sigma 50mm macro and was extremely happy with the results. It sounds like you "struck out" twice w/ the Sigma Marc, as they are known for poor quality control. I must have just gotten a good one. At $175, this lens in a must-have piece of kit, in my opinion, especially for Canon shooters. Cheers James
JimG 27 Posted April 6, 2006 I have the same lens and Aquatica 5D. I confirm it is too long for the standard macro port by a very tiny amount when racked out to 1:1. I told Blake at Aquatica about this and he basically said any very small extension would do the job. The lens port/rings/zoom gears/dioptre etc information on their web site was very limited for non-Nikon kit last time I looked. It is supposed to be in process of being updated. Mick 0 Posted April 6, 2006 Thanks Jim I had a play with it last night and agree with what you say. I am going to use one of the extensions I have got and give it a try tommorrow. Thanks all Mick
