Wahoo 0 Posted April 8, 2006 I just received an Ikelite 8" dome for Nikon 12-24. Ikelite describes the mounting body lengths as changeable. Has anyone changed these? Do they screw in/out? It seems pretty solid and I don't want to put much pressure on it until I know how it works.
acroporas 0 Posted April 8, 2006 Yes the Stalk Screws out. It screws in the standard direction. You can see some pictures of the stalk without dome, and the dome without stalk at the following link. http://photography.willandsam.com/Reviews/dabigadome/
kdietz 0 Posted April 8, 2006 Sears sells a great strap wrench that works well for unscrewing the stalks ..... get the small one for $5 Karl
JoelD 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Taking the short stalk out the first time was pretty tough. After that, it's was much easier. I was on the verge of calling Ike for tech support. It just took some elbow grease... I agree, the strap wrench would have done the job much easier....
UWphotoNewbie 1 Posted April 10, 2006 Yep, I needed someone else to hold the dome for me to screw it out the first time. The second time I muscled through it myself but its tough. Ike recommended a strap wrench: Strap wrench recommended for removal. These do not need to be "tight" when installed as seal is side-to-side. Simply screw into place by hand without any "tightening" at all. A little lube definitely recommended on the sealing "O" ring. I'm headed out to buy one.
