stewsmith 14 Posted May 20, 2006 i have just added a sea and sea ys90 auto duo to my sony P12. i have played around with it out of the water and have found that i can use the strobe without attatching the fibre optic cable. can anyone tell me what the difference is by using it or by not using it. Jolly 3 Posted May 25, 2006 Optical cable ensures that the strobe isn’t influenced by environment (another diver firing strobes could trigger your strobe for example). Another useful point is that you can block the internal strobe so you can avoid backscatter. I would recommend using an optical cable. Julian
LyN 0 Posted May 25, 2006 Moreover, in macro you may expect it to work without cable, but in wide angle you cannot be sure there will be enough light reflection to make it fire the strobe. So you'd better use a cable.
stewsmith 14 Posted May 25, 2006 cheers for the replies, the backscatter will be a concern so i will be using the cover. i am not very convinced with the fabric velcro material that come with the strobe so i will be trying to make my own from aluminium.
