Yo may want to take a look at the Great Battery Shootout or at Green Batteries before deciding, but after browsing through this information my conclusion was that Maha chargers are at least among the best and that any well known brand NiMH battery is ok.

I don't have the deluxe 8 cell, but I've been using the MAHA fast chargers with their AA batteries for several years now and they are QUICK! I've been totally happy with both the chargers and their batteries.

I agree. I've been using MAHA chargers and batteries for years now, and I trust them.

I used this charger on my last trip to Lembeh and it worked great....it replaced two 4 battery chargers and helped in my packing a little....very fast

I bought this charger and used it on my last trip. The speed and extra capacity were great, especially when you've got other gadgets that run on AA rechargeable batteries, too. Only drawback is the size and its power brick. An excellent charger, however, for anywhere from 1 to 8 batteries at a time.

I've had several maha chargers and am thinking about upgrading to this one. I like the maha chargers that can run fast or slow - no reason to stress batteries with a fast charge when there is no hurry. I also prefer the chargers, like this one, that charge batteries as singles rather than in pairs. I don't like the pair chargers, even though they do well in the Shootout. If the batteries have different resistance, the charger may charge the one with lower resistance with too much juice. I want them charged individually.

Basically, it looks good to me. I imagine it has guts as good as or better than the older chargers (which have done great by me for many years), has the features of the chargers I like best, and has indicators. I've been wanting one, but I'm holding off. My next trip isn't for a while, they may come out with something better yet.

Chris:

I like MAHA a bunch, but I only use the 4 cell chargers since I have had an occasional charger break. The MAHA c2-4W use a regular plug (No brick) are fast and totally reliable.

We use the Powerex 2700 mAh batteries and the Ansmann 2600 and they work great.
