using SB105 as slave with DS-125

Recommended Posts

HELP! I recently bought a DS-125 and connect this with a TTL sync cord to my Olympus8080 housing in the ikelite housing. I still want to use my nikonos SB105 strobe on slave mode but it doesn't fire in sync with the camera because of the DS125's preflash (I think)...

any suggestions on how to rig this properly? used to connect the SB105 to the housing using the ikelite sync cord but had problems later on with the strobe not firing in sync.

I believe the only way you're going to be able to use the 105 is if you disable the DS125's ttl by putting it into manual mode. Go into your camera settings and also put the camera into manual flash mode. You will have to manually set the level of the DS-125 and 105 on the respective flash. You're only other option is to reverse the strobes making the 105 your primary slave flash and the DS125 your 2nd wireless slave. I believe Ikelite makes a wireless sensor which simulates a ttl connection. Anyway, its a nice problem to have. Two nice strobes. Anyway you slice it, except buying a 2nd DS125 with a dual cord setup, you'd have to adjust one flash anyway.

regards,

Gary

Either I don't know how or it's not possible to switch the camera to manual flash mode when you're using manual settings

any suggestions how to do this?

I have an 8080 that I use for underwater shots. It's possible to disable the preflash by entering the camera's flash menu, then scrolling down to the 3rd option and choosing "SLAVE," which will fire the internal flash at one of 9 power levels. You should then be able to fire an external flash without having the camera pre-flash fire it for you too early.

Works for me, although with my strobe, I have to carefully aim to get the thing to fire. Looking for a corded alternative that works with a PT-023 housing if anyone has any ideas...
