Lembeh --- Lembeh Resorts or Kungkungan Bay

Recommended Posts

Trying to plan a trip to Lembeh end of Oct beg Nov.

Between LR and KKB, which place has the best dive operators and guides?

I plan on going on a photo frenzy with a buddy and we would rather forego some of the luxuries topside for great diving. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Having been to both resorts in the past, I'd tend to say that they're both very nice and well organised, with KBR probably on a short lead, thanks to very small dive groups (2 to 4 divers per dive guide) and very experienced guides.

KBR was awesome and I will be going back. The diving right off the shore is awesome...it has almost all that Lembeh is popular for. And personally I like the 24-7 restaurant because when I get up at 2a.m. to edit pictures, I can get coffee and food at no additional cost. The guides are awesome and Steve knows his stuff. I have no formal experience with Lembeh Resort, but I am sure they are mirroring KBR.

HI Lawrence.

Do you mind sharing some info on prices for airline, lodging and diving that you may have? I'm planning the same trip from Los Angeles for the end of July or beg of August.

Thanks

Hugo

interesting i have been to both as well, but i give the edge to LR :D horses for courses i guess.

small dive groups, superlative dive guides, nitrox at hand (though i think now kbr has finally started offering it)...

one thing i really preferred at LR was having the sun in the afternoon especially july/august when the wind is blowing. on the other hand kbr has a warm shower....

both are great and the diving is fantastic...

Hey Hugo..

my first trip out there but this is my itinerary.

I'm flying Singapore Exec economy from LAX to singapore. it is a direct flight

the nice thing of the exec economy is the larger seats, more leg room. it is more costly but worth it from what people have told me. Also, i won't have to spend any time on layovers to HK or Taiwan.

Once in singapore you fly Silk on a direct flight to Manado. That flight is only on Fri, Sat, Mon and Wed i believe. So plan your dates appropriately.

the flight gets in at about 1pm. Might be able to get an afternoon dive in definitely a nite dive. flying out, you will miss the flight stateside when you get to Singapore. So you will have most of a day to chill in Singapore.

in terms of prices, i would go to the net and check out their websites. Silk and Singapore Air have different websites even though they are the same company. Kinda stupid i know.

g'luck.

You guys mention LR and KBR. Are these the names of the resorts or are they short for some name?

It will help to get the complete nemes to do a web search.

Thanks

Hugo

My understanding is that Linda and Carl (formerly with the Bali-based Kararu liveaboard operation) are now managing the Lembeh resort, while EcoDivers Manado has taken over management of dive operations at KBR. These are all good people, I don't think you can go wrong either way.

The selling factor for Lembeh Resort, when I went in November 2004, was LR had air conditioning in the rooms. I believe KBR has it now. Otherwise, I have heard nothing but good things about both and was pleased with my own resort and dive experience at Lembeh Resort. They also had a great camera room.

I stayed at KBR in January and it was fantastic. A really nice resort, well run, friendly, excellent food, relaxed and DMs with 60-20 vision. Yep, it is run by EcoDivers (Jim and Cary - great people). I really want to go back.

I was at KBR a few times over the past couple of years :( and rooms are air-conditioned too. KBR also has a camera room where you can lay your equipment, put batteries to charge, etc. Like Lembeh Resort, they also have an infinity pool where you can soak between dives :)
