synthetic 4 Posted July 6, 2006 The Ikelite housing, at least the 5D housing I'm looking at, doesn't have a spot to screw in a ball mount for a spotter light on top of the housing. So how are people attaching a spotter/focus light on these housings? I assume you mount a Y-joint from one of the arms and attach it that way. I have ULCS arms now that I'll attach to the Ike handles using BA-IK mounts. Thanks.
TuriLed 2 Posted July 6, 2006 I've just got a AC-NB a few days ago. it's a short arm that allows you to attach a spotter light. Check out ULCS's "What's new" page for a photos and short description. P.S. i still haven't tried it underwater yet. Hopefully i'll try it next week.
ikelite 0 Posted July 8, 2006 Possibilties shown at following URL: http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/oly5050acc.html The #9571.23 clamp with stud will operate with other 1" arm systems like ULCS and allow their light clamp to be attached to the stud, Three-way clamps collapse everything if loosened for adjustment. crcdiver 0 Posted July 10, 2006 ULCS has the new Neck Ball Adapter that I have been using with my Ikelite housing, go to http://www.ulcs.com/ and click on "Whats new".
synthetic 4 Posted July 10, 2006 Yeah, the ULCS arm looks to be the way to go. I like that you can set it once and leave it tightened, just loosening the arm or the flashlight itself when you need to adjust. The Ikelite design means that you loosen your flashlight every tim you loosen the strobe, which sounds like a handful. I still wish there was a mounting hole on the Ike housing, but the ULCS arm seems like a good solution.
jcclink 8 Posted July 11, 2006 Depending on the light you're using ULCS also has a mounting plate that goes on top of the handle with a ball on the end. This makes the spotter light independent of the strobe. You can then change lighting without having to reposition the spotter.
yakimadiver 0 Posted July 11, 2006 I also have a 5D and an Ikelite housing. I have used the new UCLS arm with a Fisheye focus light. The combination works great. Before I had a UCLS 3 sided connector which moved the focus light everytime one adjusted the arms. I did have problems with the Fisheye charger. Marine Camera Distributors took care of my problem at no charge even though I purchased the light at DEMA. Those guys are great!!!!! Yakimadiver Canon 5D, Ike Housing, delighted with both!!! synthetic 4 Posted July 11, 2006 Depending on the light you're using ULCS also has a mounting plate that goes on top of the handle with a ball on the end. I don't understand, is it a flat plate with two balls for strobe and spotter? Or do you sacrifice a strobe arm for the spotter light? I want the spotter in the center, so the AC-NB sounds like a winner. I have used the new UCLS arm with a Fisheye focus light... I just googled that Fisheye focus light... woof. That's almost as much as the Ikelite housing! Must be sweet not having the spotter light beam in your shot, though. You must have REALLY hated that...
