Julian 0 Posted August 16, 2006 Hi Everyone, I am looking to get a housing and flash setup for my Canon 20D, can anyone tell me what's the best solution bearing in mind the cost/performance factors. I have had a look at the Ikelite and Aquatica housings, are there any other alternatives. Thanks in advance for any help.
acroporas 0 Posted August 16, 2006 see digideep for a list of 20D housings. As far as picking out a housing. All housings are pretty much equally good at keeping water out and take equally good pictures. What you need to be looking for is the shooting experience. How easy is it to access the buttons that you need to access underwater. How does it handle underwater (size weight boyancy)How easy is it to get the camera in the housing. How easy is it to change CF card, battery, lens, port.
bertschb 0 Posted August 16, 2006 If cost is a big factor it's hard to beat Ikelite. I have the Ike housing for my 20D and an Ikelite DS-125 strobe. The housing works fine for me but I have nothing to compare it to. Seems very well built. Very solid. The DS-125 is pretty amazing. Again, I have nothing to compare it to as far as personal experience but the recycle time is simply amazing. I take LOTS of photos (300+) on my dives and I've never killed the battery yet. I'm ordering a second DS-125 strobe soon and I'll buy another Ike housing for my next camera just because it's such a great value. I can go on a dive trip with the money I save on the Ike housing. I'm not saying Ike is the best because I've never used anything else- just a great value and well built.
Julian 0 Posted August 17, 2006 Thanks for the replies guys. I think it is a good point that usability is the most important factor. From the Ikelite site I couldn't find a list of the available functions when inside the housing, on the Aquatica site they list all available functions. Do you think it would make a big difference having 2 x DS-125 strobes on arms, I can understand the concept of illuminating the subject evenly to not create shadow and also having an extra strobe would give more illumination power, are there other factors? xtremediver 0 Posted August 17, 2006 The ikelite housing allows you the ettl option as well as access to all camera functions. Personally, I use the ikelite housing with 2 DS 125 strobes as the match up is perfect and with the two strobes you can "paint" the light on the scene that you are shooting. My 2 cents worth.
