erika 0 Posted September 16, 2006 If I buy the Inon Z240 for use with the Ikelite housing for Canon 350D will I be able to get TTL compatibility? Or can I only use Ikelite strobes? Which ones do you recommend with this housing? I want dual strobes.
mattdiver 0 Posted September 16, 2006 I don't thin TTL will work, as the TTL circuitry in Ikelite housings is geared towards their own strobes. I tried to use TTL with 2 Z240s and a D70 and D200 in Ikelite housings a month ago, and it didn't work. In fact, strobe behaviour was at best erratic unless set to work in Manual mode... acroporas 0 Posted September 16, 2006 As Matt said, Ikelites TTL is only compatible with Ikelite DS strobes. No other brand's strobes will work, nor will older ikelite strobes. I would recomend Ikelite DS-125 or DS-200 strobes. Both are great strobes.

I heard something about a Heinrichs converter, could that be installed in the Ikelite housing to allow for TTL compatibility with Inon strobes? Or did I get that totally wrong? mattdiver 0 Posted September 18, 2006 If you already have an Ikelite TTL converter installed in your housing, I'd recommend that you go for Ikelite strobes (e.g. DS125). If you currently do not have any TTL converter installed, and want to get TTL functionality with Inon Z240s specifically, you'll have to get the Heinrich-Weikamp eTTL converter, and get it installed. This is not something that you should try if you have never used a soldering iron before. Depending on your location, you should consider sending your housing to one of the camera kit specialists listed in the sponsored links on Wetpixel.

I have no idea whether there's already a converter installed in the housing. I just ordered it from my local dealer and it will come here next week. I'm just lookig around to see what else I need to get/order. Does the Ikelite housing for the Canon D350 automatically have a converter installed? If yes, then I'll go for the Ikelite strobes like you recommended.
mattdiver 0 Posted September 18, 2006 I have no idea whether there's already a converter installed in the housing. Just check your order. If the housing reference code is #6871.35, then it will have the Ikelite TTL converter pre-installed.
