aczyzyk 1 Posted October 17, 2006 My DS-125 just arrived. I has the new NIMH battery pack. I also ordered smart charger with it, but it says "For use only with NiCd battery packs rated 5.4 AMP" on it. Do I have the correct charger?
james 0 Posted October 17, 2006 You need the new charger type for use with the NiMH battery packs. See the Ikelite website for details. Cheers James
Tom Shepherd 0 Posted October 17, 2006 The charger you have will not work with your battery pack. If you send an email with your address to repair@ikelite.com we will send you the correct charger. We also need to know the dealer that sold it to you. We need to contact them to let them know they are selling the incorrect charger for NiMH battery packs. Rocha 0 Posted October 18, 2006 I just got two new NiMH batteries for my SS200s (my NiCds died) and the new charger from Ryan. They got here a few hours ago, just in time for my trip to Palau tomorrow. The new charger comes with very handy interchangeable plugs to fit international electric outlets, if yours doesn't have these plugs it is the wrong charger. Just drop Ikelite a line as Tom suggested; as far as I know they have the best service in the industry. Luiz
aczyzyk 1 Posted October 18, 2006 I was affraid so. I talked to the dealer today and they will replace it. So there is no problem. It's good that I did not use it. Tom, it's actually my fault because I specified wrong catalog number in my order.
AzonIc 0 Posted October 23, 2006 How do I tell if my battery packs are Nicad or Nimh?
aczyzyk 1 Posted October 23, 2006 When you detach battery pack you can see a sticker saying NiMh inside. I already have a new charger. I like the interchangeable plugs design.
rinjani 10 Posted October 24, 2006 I just upgraded to DS-125s and purchased both the smart charger and a spare battery pack - I haven't even unpacked them yet. Naturally I now have a mixture of NiCads and NiMH and a charger for only NiCads. It would sure be nice if the dealers would emphasize that there are two kinds of battery pack and you need different chargers for them. Although I just checked the dealers that I use and while you can order NiMh battery packs they only appear to be selling the older smart chargers. Of course the upgrade in strobes is for an upcoming trip - one week away. I'm glad aczyzyk noticed this and posted something or I wouldn't have noticed in time. Now to find a newer charger. bandit 0 Posted October 24, 2006 (edited) The new charger works for both battery packs i'm pretty sure. Ryan has the new chargers. Edited October 24, 2006 by bandit
rinjani 10 Posted October 24, 2006 (edited) Hmm, the one shown on his website says it's for NiCads. I decided to send a note to Ikelite...while I try to find a new cahrger. Thanks. [edit] I actually checked a bunch of websites and they all have pretty much the same blurb on them regarding the smart charger. None of them actually say that the charger is for both NiMH and NiCads, quote "The charger plugs directly into the SubStrobe 125 and SubStrobe 200 ni-cad packs" but in some cases the product listing number is the same as Ikelites for the NiMH charger (item #4066.1). bandit 0 Posted October 24, 2006 (edited) From Ike's website "The Smart Charger is configured to charge both Ni-cad and NiMH battery packs." Ryan (reefphoto) is definitely shipping the new charger and battery packs as i got one from him last week. Edited October 24, 2006 by bandit
