ultralight strobe arm length?

Recommended Posts

hi,

was wondering what a good arm length combination is for a single D-2000 strobe using a oly c-7070. i like the ultralight double arm configuration. i'll be shooting mainly macro but would like the flexibility to shoot some wide angle. i was thinking an 8" and 5". is that overkill? maybe two 5'?

2 x 5", or 1 x 8" + 1 x 5" should work fine for macro and general WA.

I agree with Mattdiver, two 5" or one each 5" and 8"

For W/A I'd definitely go for the slightly longer arm combination. If you're going to move over to a bigger DSLR then even that would be too short in the long run. If it seems unwieldy, make the longer segment bouyant, or, better, buy the bouyant arm segment. I use two 10" bouyant segments with at least 8" perforated TLC segments for W/A, and it's easy to handle in the water.

With with 1 -8 and 1 -5 with the 8 nearest the camera. When you fold them up the difference in length will allow your strobe to tuck in closer to the camera when handing the camera off or climbing a ladder with it.

Might give you more flexibility down the road to when your system grows.
