Camouflage gear and mirrored lenses

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I found some fairly cool gear and I’m wondering of they are of any use for us critter stalkers. I’m about to order a bunch to give it a shot. It’s made by Omersub in italy. (www.omersub.com)

The gear was actually designed for spear-fishers and comes in different designs to match different conditions. There are blue-water, green and brown camouflage masks, snorkels, wetsuits and fins available… Some masks even with mirrored lenses. Transparent fins are also available too.

Another item I’ll try are camouflage stickers to make the housing less “flashyâ€.

Anybody and experience with this?

Next think would be a bladder/back-plate and tank in open water camouflage and I’ll be invisible!? ;)

Cheers from Manila

Torben

I used to have a mirrored lense spear fishng mask .. they are awesome ... actually kinda polarised .. and worked better than thos emasks that are pink in adding colour back to the reef. Weird but true. I miss that mask .. but don't see any on here that are mirrored.

The fins are free diving find which I also used to use for diving and are my favourite fins until you get into a confined space like a swim through made of coral.

As for the suits .. i doubt they will help but they may be good suits ... freediving equipment is generally good stuff as they need to be more streamline and efficient etc. spearfishermen just camoflauge it all !

Cool stuff, better than all the flashy yellow and purple suits.

This is definately Pro-style:

I have a theory that if you don't actually look at a fish or turtle or whatever you can get quite close before they get spooked. I think they perceive your direct gaze as a threat. So the mirrored lenses might give you some advantage.

If I one of those masks I am going to give it a try.

Can anyone else find the mirrored mask ? I would kill to have one again ... but i wouldn't kill a fishey thing .. maybe an ant ...

Anyways ... yeh i would love a mirrored lense .. maybe look for one in Miami when i go .. they are really nice masks .. very low profile .. and great vision.

Hey Giles,

you want me to send some?

Yes, the fins are freediving fins and great for blue water and wall dives in strong current like Tubbataha and Palau. For the Anilao coral gardens I use Forcefins...

In the end it makes the most difference how you move and yes, I observed too that if you look at a fish, it's gone. The mirror lenses are supposed to tackle this problem.

The whole set might just help a big but would not hurt I think...!?

Did anybody try the gear already

Cheers

Torben
