markdhanlon 0 Posted December 1, 2006 Is anyone using their strobes as flashlights? I would like to use my DS-125 as a night dive light, but don't plan on taking my camera down as well (not this time anyway). So I would like to know any suggestions for some type of handle or method of holding the strobe. Thanks.
Arnon_Ayal 1 Posted December 1, 2006 (edited) The DS 125 is probably a great strobe, but for 600$ it's a lousy flashlight. Any small and cheap flashlight will be better and for sure much comfortable. Edited December 1, 2006 by Arnon_Ayal
acroporas 0 Posted December 1, 2006 I've used a DS-125 as a flashlight am many dives. It works great. I allways used the strobe arms as a handle. But I'll agree with Aron, a $25 AAA light works just as well, and is a lot smaller and cheaper.
UWphotoNewbie 1 Posted December 2, 2006 The DS125 certainly has enough power. I use it as my primary light on night dives and its more than enough. Two is like stadium lighting. It makes a great light if you are taking down your camera. Of course I always keep a backup in my pocket. Make sure you close the sync cord connection with the silver cap/plug though so its waterproof if you aren't using a sync cord. The main question is why aren't you bringing your camera? MikeVeitch 0 Posted December 2, 2006 i wouldn't want to risk the flood if i wasn't using it to take pics...
fdog 3 Posted December 2, 2006 If you were taking your camera and using the strobe as lighting (during a night dive), the smart diver always, and I mean always, has a backup light with them. Even a dinky little backup light would be a better choice than a DS-125. I'll sincerly echo Mike....I wouldn't take the risk of a flood.... All the best, James
