Dolphin Massacre Film

Recommended Posts

A friend just forwarded this to me. This is perhaps one of the most graphic, sad and real footage of the dolphin massacre happening each year in coastal villages in Japan. This is so clearly wrong and must be stopped...but how!

Excerpt from video: "Every winter between the months of October through March, thousands of Dolphins are confined and brutally killed in small towns across Japan. Such images of slaughter and bloody red water clearly shows the Japanese Government has little respect for the state of the world's Oceans with their inhumane method efficient....."

what are the dolphins used for?

I have never heard of dolphin sashimi...

or is it to decrease the fishermen's competition.

The other pathetic thing is the "nice looking" dolphins are then sold to aquariums and water parks for big bucks for tourists.

I was brought up on a farm shooting roos and stuff but watching that stuff is very hard.

We use to shot them as there is just too many of them, more so than ever before in AUS due to all the nice wheat crops and water for livestock everywhere.

They kill the Dolphins because the think they eat all the fish.

The real reason they don't catch much is due to overfishing.

I sure as more and more pressure is put on them, they will be made to stop.

But very said :D

This is a terrible, inhumane and barbaric practice. And it must stop. There are a number of excellent organizations working hard to put an end to the drives once and for all. Among them is BlueVoice.org. Hardy Jones is a longtime filmmaker who has devoted his life to exposing and stopping the dolphin slaughters, as well as other crucial issues that face marine life.

Last year Hardy sent us some footage to podcast, and that became DiveFilm Podcast Video Episode 27, "Defending Dolphins."

One of the things mentioned in the podcast is that much of the financial incentive for the Japanese dolphin drives comes from the captive dolphin industry. It's made me question the source of dolphins for many of the resorts, parks, and "dolphin encounters" that feature captive dolphins. Some claim that they are rescuing dolphins from Japanese fishermen. But it would appear that the reverse is true: their demand for captive dolphins is helping to fuel the drives in Japan in which dolphin slaughter accompanies dolphin capture.

I am hopeful that the Japanese people, when they too learn more about these terrible practices, will begin to speak out more loudly against the drives. And I commend people like Hardy Jones who devote their art and their lives to trying to stop such horrific practices.

More organizations working to stop the Japanese dolphin drives include "Act for Dolphins," a network of scientists and aquaria, Sea Shepherd, and the "Save Taiji Dolphins Campaign."

Hi All,

I had this video emailed to me, and i think its a different edit to the one you normally see. Its a lot more graphic and disturbing, i couldn't watch it twice. To Be quite honest, i wouldn't advise watching it as there doesn't appear to be a lot we can do about it, and it is very upsetting.

But anyway, here it is:

Think that's an old one. Yep it's hard to watch. :)

Dear o Dear...with this and the Whaling, I think it will catch up with them in the next few years as more and more of their people can really see what goes on via the internet etc and not just what info their government feeds them.

Simon what liveaboard were you on?

Sadly i was on a slightly un-eco friendly liveaboard in Palau, i wont name names, but you if you go to the maps section on www.divephotofest.com and look at German Channel in Palau you can see a nice slick running behind it :) The i was in Tahiti on the Aggressor where i had the (dis)pleasure of meeting Mike Veitch (Pronounced with a B by Tahitians :):) )

I started to to get Island Fever in Tahiti due to no communication with the outside world, so i went for a change of scenery on the Nautilus Explorer in Mexico which didn't fair much better for my mental state so i've taken a year off diving to work in an office :guiness:

Hence i'm now going stir crazy and wanting to get back to a tropical setting, this time with internet access!!

Back to the dolphins - i've seen other edits of the same video, but not where you actually see the dolphins being cut up whilst still alive - that made me so angry. How expensive can it be to buy a few grenades in Tokyo?? :):)

You ever seen a grown man cry...I can't bloody stop.

I feel physically sick and so angry at the cruelty........Jesus, they were still alive when they cut into them..

I sat in front of my P.C for ten minutes asking myself if i should watch this..But then You've got to, I could only manage half of it..I feel like shit. Whats wrong with people..I think the 'Tradition' argument should be stuffed down their F'ing throats...

Something has to be done.

I found a few petitions:

http://www.petitiononline.com/golfinho/

http://www.seashepherd.org/taiji/

But what good they'd do i don't know.

20,000 wild dolphins per year was one figure i saw today, it cant go on for that much longer as there can't be that many left around Japan.

Then again, it's no worse than what sharks go through, and the new harpoons that they use on Whales to electrocute them to save on wasted flesh, caused by the old explosive ones...

It makes me angry, but i'm sure that it angers many Japanese too, there is just too much apathy in conservation.

I thought this little tidbit from the UK press was an interesting contrast to the Taiji treatment of Dolphins in Japan. Strange that so much would be spent to improve the life of one dolphin when so little is spent to save 20,000 per year:(

Excerpt: Daily Mail

"A dolphin at an aquarium in Japan has been given a new lease of life, after being fitted with an artificial fin.

Fuji's tail fin was attacked by a mystery disease and four years ago two thirds of her tail fin had to be amputated.

But thanks to an artificial fin developed by vets and a tyre manufacturer, Fuji is back in the water. "

Japanese authorities claim that the dolphins compete with the fishermen for the fish and we can't allow that can we?...which proves my theory that a considerable part of the world population is made up of imbeciles [just look at our elected leaders] that under normal circumstances would be disposed off [a good place to start would be anyone who watches Big Brother for + than 5min] making room for wildlife.

They exhaust the fish stocks and when there is no more fish it is the taxpayer who yet again has to put up the bill in subsidies for the re-conversion of the industry, vocational training, unemployment benefits or worse by entering fishing agreements with development countries so that our dear fishermen can still have a job and carry on their "empty sea" policy abroad.

This is why I don't eat fish, as far as I am concerned they all can go to unemployment.

Wow Jorge, tell us how you really feel. ;)

Unfortunately, governments are political and so they are vote driven, one of the major side effects of democracy, where a minority of voters in the right part of the country can supersede the majority. Unfortunately humans in general lack foresight beyond the immediate. We do tend to borrow from the future. Deficit spending as they say is how great things are done.

;):D;)

You ever seen a grown man cry...I can't bloody stop.

Well, that makes two of us.

WTF is it that allows us humans to indulge in such practices, utterly barbaric and disgusting.

Sometimes I feel ashamed to be part of the human race.................

I will petition - and pass on to everyone I can.

I've just got my confirmation of the 90th signature from my 'round robin' email sent out since my 28th Febuary post; those people in turn have sent out emails to their own 'circles'...........
