james 0 Posted February 7, 2002 How about posting a picture of your rig so that we can all share what works and hopefully get some ideas from others. If you have a picture of your setup, but no webspace to put it, just email it to me and I'll upload it. james@reefs.org So let's see those massive 2-strobe setups folks! I'll try to get a picture of my rig tonight. Cheers James
herbko 0 Posted February 8, 2002 This is probably the oldest one in service. I put this together January 2001, before pre-flash compatible strobes were available. Had to make my own optical fiber link to the Ikelite A35 strobe. Here are a few links to some of the photos from this setup. http://www.fototime.com/inv/158D2454F417E68 http://www.fototime.com/inv/624CB152B588FDE http://www.fototime.com/inv/EA093E2DE3D277C Herb [Edited on 2-8-2002 by herbko]

SharpDiver 0 Posted February 8, 2002 I have posted this image many times on RSD and Steve's. PT-010 with Dual YS-90DX Strobes on ULCS arms and Nikonos V tray. About the only thing I would change if I had it to do over would be to use shorter arm segments. That said, I can do some pretty inventive stuff with side lighting on macro subjects as it is. DigiSnap Mark 2 Posted February 9, 2002 I use a Nikon 950 in an Ikelite housing, with 10 watt HID lamps in my own custom housings, and customized loc-line arms. Decomike 0 Posted February 9, 2002 Our first camera was a Canon IXUS 300, nice. Since last week we are the proud owner of a Ikelite Housing for our Canon Powershot G2, great. In combination with the DS50 it works excellent. Our site is in Dutch, sorry! In a few weeks we will also present our site in english. But for the time being we can give you a short leasons in Dutch: Gastenboek=Guestbook Apparatuur=Equipment Foto = Picture Zwembad=Swimmingpool http://members.tripodnet.nl/duikfoto Don't forget, if the sight view is 4 meters, we are lucky. Ike, Thanks!
james 0 Posted February 9, 2002 Wow,thanks for sharing guys! Here are two photos sent to me by Raf Ponjaert. He's using an Oly C40 and a YS90DX: Cheers James

Guest wetpixel Posted February 10, 2002 not officially mine, but I'm working on getting one. Canon D30 housing with flat port for 17-35/2.8, and Canon 550EX strobe housing. And, for fun, the camera counter of the Kona Aggressor II:
Guest wetpixel Posted February 10, 2002 This is a photo I took of Dave Breitigam, in Kona. It's a Ikelite Coolpix 990 housing, with two Ikelite DS-50 strobes (I believe). [Edited on 2-10-2002 by echeng]
MikeO 5 Posted February 10, 2002 Boy, you can sure tell those photos taken with the D30. The water always looks an other-worldly color of blue! Anyway, here is what I've managed to put together so far. I managed to get my ULCS tray to fit onto the Ikelite housing, however only one of the bolts is really firmly attached. The other serves mostly to keep the tray from rotating. Also, the tray doesn't fit so that it is perfectly straight on the housing. Still trying to figure out the perfect setup, but I haven't figured out a great method of connecting the ULCS arms I already own to the Ikelite handles. Ike makes a ball fitting that goes into the quick release handle, but it is a 1.25" Ike ball and that won't fit into my ULCS triple clamp (which holds the slave sensor). As always, a work in progress! Mike
james 0 Posted February 11, 2002 Hi Mike, Why don't you get one of these: Made by Ultralight Control Systems: http://www.ulcs.com/gshousings.html Then you can use the Ike quick release handle, which is really pretty nice. An added bonus it that you can put your other tray back on your Nikonos...:-) Cheers James [Edited on 2-11-2002 by jamesw]
MikeO 5 Posted February 11, 2002 Yeah, I figured that out last night (see my thread under "lighting") -- it's part # BA-IK. I was looking under arm components and it was on their "SLR Housing" page. Boy do I feel stupid [LOL]. As for the tray, I was using it on a PT-010, which I don't have anymore -- I don't have a Nikonos. Anyone want a ULCS tray for a PT-010 (or a Nikonos, for that matter)!?! Maybe I'll put it up on eBay. Just wish Ike could streamline a few of their parts to make them a bit less clunky (I'm not a big fan of the tray they put on the digicam housing) -- I know, I know, they'd have to charge more . Thanks, MikeO

derway 2 Posted February 25, 2002 I put a couple of shots of my setup on pbase. I consider the focus assist light to be mandatory. http://www.pbase.com/derway/g2_ikelite_housing_setup
james 0 Posted February 26, 2002 Wow, that is nice Don! Ike really hit a home run the way he designed the quick-release handle/TTL strobe sensor attachment. Right on. I really like my Ikelit housing. It doesn't feel like a "toy" unlike some other housings out there...ahem....hehe. Cheers James
derway 2 Posted February 26, 2002 Yeah, exactly. This has always been my one and only complaint about using the old TTL slaves, with my film setup. Having yet one more thing, to have to keep pointed in a generally right direction. Now, with the extended quick release posts, (which come in both ball and the big-wing-nut connector types), the optical slave setup is perfect. Set it once, and forget it. Don't even need a battery, if connecting to a DS series strobe! How simple and clean can you get? Now, I just need to figure out a way to do 2 strobes, and an aiming light. One of the things I like about my ike SLR case, is that there are 4 mount points for arms. I've never seen an Ikelite 3 way gizmo, like ultralight has, have you? Don
james 0 Posted February 26, 2002 Negative, but then I use ULCS arms and I have a triple-clamp w/ flashlight holder. It would be nice if the top of the housing had one of those locline mounts for a small aiming light... Cheers James
Dave 0 Posted March 1, 2002 Lot's of great photos here! (wher've I been?). That one Eric took of me in Kona is actually with a DS-125 and a slaved DS-50 (even though I have a dual Ike sync cord installed). Obviously playing around. david@wetpixel.com

james 0 Posted March 3, 2002 All right, I FINALLY got my setup back from my friend and have posted a picture. I had to get the "studio backdrop" out for this one...hehe: As you can see, the strobe is bigger than the housing... I got this strobe for wideangle shooting w/ my Nikonos 15mm and I hope to use it with the 19mm Nikon(NICE!) converter lens for the coolpix 5000. I forgot to mention - you can see the triple clamp and flashlight holder on the top of the handle. It's nice for night dives, both for focusing, and not having to carry a separate dive light. If I had an Ikelite strobe I wouldn't need this... Cheeers James [Edited on 3-4-2002 by jamesw]
rstark 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Aquatica 995 Housing ULC arms ULC short tray w/ removable handle YS90DX Strobe Ikelite DS50 Strobe w/ slave sensor Underwater Kinetics Focus light (w/ diffuser)
james 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Wow, that Aquatica housing looks nice! Thanks for posting the picture. I've got a couple of questions if you don't mind: Since the housing is angled at 45 degrees, is the tray "crooked" making your strobes point forward? Why didn't you use a sync cord to sync your S&S YS 90DX? Actually, now that I look at the picture again, it looks like your this picture is just for demonstration purposes. Sorry about the questions. My guess is that you use a sync cord w/ the YS90 and use the TTL slave sensor to fire the DS50. Cheers James [Edited on 3-5-2002 by jamesw]
rstark 0 Posted March 5, 2002 The tray is parallel to the bottom of the housing so if shooting horizontal, the handles/tray would be angled 45 forward (very comfortable). Sync cord for ys90 should be here in a couple of days.
laz217 0 Posted March 8, 2002 Here's a pic of my PT-010 setup with the Olympus 3040Z , dual YS90-DXs, Inon wide-angle and macro lens, and the ULCS arm and tray system. All this is maintained by Señor Beaker at the Muppet Labs. Meep! Meep! Meep!
