bmyates 3 Posted February 2, 2007 David, I got one and used it on my 1Ds MkII in Indonesia in December, and I like it. Not quite as quick focusing as the Sigma 50mm macro, but satisfactorily fast, and a little better as a fish lens (you don't have to get quite so close). It's only real drawback is the length; at 1:1 the barrel of the lens is WAY out there (some say further than the Sigma specs suggest), so you need a much longer port than you'd think. As I recall, I used the same port/extension as I do with the Canon 100mm. If you can get your hands on one to check how it fits with your particular port, I would suggest doing so. Other than that, I think it's an excellent lens, and a welcome addition to fill in where the 50mm is too wide and the 100mm is too long... I'm attaching a few photos taken with that lens. dmoss 0 Posted February 2, 2007 (edited) I've been considering this lens for my 5D / Ikelite According to the Sigma spec sheet, the lens extends out to 5.7". It is 3.7" retracted. Ikelite port 5505.58 (which I have) is listed to work with lenses less than 6.1" If, as Bruce indicated, the 5.7" may be incorrect and there may be a problem. dhaas 32 Posted February 2, 2007 David (and other Ikelite shooters) Just got this from the gurus at Ikelite: DO NOT trust manufacturers specs with regards to lens length. Many time they do not give "fully extended" lens lengths. This lens is actually 5 3/4" fully extended. We just a did a custom port for this lens. It will shortly become a stock item, #5508.70, likely will be $200.00 retail like our other custom manual focus equipped ports. #5505.58 would be the right flat port for AF use only. So it appears one of the flat ports you already have, David, will work with this Sigma 70mm macro lens. Good shooting! David Haas Haas Photography Inc.
