segal3 0 Posted February 4, 2007 This little guy was not particularly pleased at being caught outside of a burrow... Backside of Molokini, Maui with a bit of glass

acroporas 0 Posted February 5, 2007 Nice find Matt. Very beautiful fish. Is it just my (uncalibrated)monitor or is the inside of the mouth overexposed?
segal3 0 Posted February 5, 2007 Thanks guys Yes, the right-corner of the mouth where the jaw hinges was pure white - hard to avoid . The rest of his mouth was more of a gray or yellow coloration. I was hoping he wouldn't open up that wide but nooo... For those unfamiliar with the species, this moray was just over 1 cm in diameter, and 15 cm long. You can see the rest of his body curve around to the left in the background.
seagrant 4 Posted February 5, 2007 Matt, I love these guys!!!! Tiny and quite "spunky" when you find them out as you say! FYI, the photo looks very well balanced on my monitor, but then mine is not the gold standard........., still the white in the mouth looks very natural for the species. Lovely photo with lots of good color and you caught the essence of a rather uncommonly encountered subject in Hawaii. I love photos of the more unusual species. True any nicely composed u/w photo is fine, but it is really special to me when it is something one doesn't see everyday underwater, like this tiny yellow fellow!! B) Thanks, Carol
