sgietler 1 Posted March 9, 2007 (edited) I was wondering if anyone has used a YS90DX strobe with a fiber optic cable before on a point-and-shoot camera. if so, did it work ok? which fiber optic cable did you use? I'm sure the sea-n-sea fiber optic cable works, I was just wondering if other ones work as well... sometime these strobes work as a slave strobe off the internal flash even without a fiber optic cable. they are able to "see" the flash come out the side of the housing. that's how my fantasea strobe works. has anyone tried this with the YS90-DX? thanks! RickM 0 Posted March 9, 2007 I have one and it works fine. Never had any problem with it triggering the strobe. It's a Sea&Sea one but I'm sure about any will work, it just seemed to fit the YS90 the best. Never tried that YS90-DX as just a slave off the internal strobe - I had it covered pretty well. Didn't want anything sneaking out to light up any floating bits in the water. Rick
jarhed 0 Posted March 9, 2007 I have also used the YS 90 w/ fiber optic cable. Works great, never had a problem. As mentioned, Make sure you cover up your internal flash to avoid backscatter. I never used it in slave mode without the fiber optic cable, but assume it would be a bit less reliable, but should work. Take care, John
CSPhoto 0 Posted March 19, 2007 I've used the YS 90, one wired one slave, on a housed D-70 and had very poor results, sometime the slave would fire sometimes not with just minor changes in strobe angle. Fiber optic does sound the way to go. Charles
thatporchdawg 0 Posted March 20, 2007 I've used two YS90-DX strobes with fiber optic cable triggering on an old P&S and had pretty good results. I used two fiber optic cables, so each strobe had their own cable to trigger with. I never tried using the strobe in slave mode since this depends very heavily on the slave sensor getting light from the wired strobe.
Charles Stirling 0 Posted April 13, 2007 I've used two YS90-DX strobes with fiber optic cable triggering on an old P&S and had pretty good results. .......... What fiber optic did you use? I've tried one now with just a plane ended fiber cable and it did work on land but interested in ideas about attaching it to the front of the strobe.
