l.babcock 2 Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) I am thinking about leaning more toward the D200 then the D80 in a Ikelite housing, I am worried about the weight of the D200 underwater, I would like to hear others experience with this combination, good bad and the ugly, and also is the battery issue that big of a deal with the D200. acroporas 0 Posted March 13, 2007 Underwater, you won't notice the weight difference between the D200 in Ikelite and the D80 in Ikelite.

Alex_Mustard 0 Posted March 13, 2007 The Ikelite housings are big and naturally buoyant. The Ikelite D80 housing i used in Cayman was only just smaller than my D2X Subal housing. The advantage of this size is that it is easy to make the Ikelite housings neutral - with the heavy baseplate. I have only used the Ike D200 in the pool - and can't remember its buoyancy - which means it was probably good. The D80 Ikelite I used for several dives was nice and neutral. LChan 0 Posted March 13, 2007 I used to own an Ike housed D200. I used both the 8" dome port as well as the macro port for the 60mm and the 105mmVR. The buoyancy felt good. It was slightly negative. I calculate probably less than 2 pounds negative (it was highly scientific - 3mm wetsuit without camera (8 pounds weight for neutral buoyancy), 3mm wetsuit with camera (6 pounds))
sdingeldein 0 Posted March 13, 2007 I have a D200 in Ikelite housing with DS 125 (SINGLE OR DUAL) and underwater the rig is slightly negatively buoyant, which I prefer (unless out over a wall) as I'd rather have a dropped camera go down than up. I have (until now) used the older 8" dome port and it gives the whole rig a "rotational" effect, where, if minimally held, the dome port wants to rotate the camera setup vertically so that the dome port is pointing up, say 60 degrees (just a guess). That rotational drive from the extra air up front in the dome port is notticable underwater, but not a big deal. I don't notice it with a flat port or 6" dome. I haven't dived with the 8" "system" so I can't say it it is the same with that system as the old 8" dome. Ike (God rest his soul) gave the best service in the world, and I am hopeful his family will continue the same. Steve Dingeldein, M.D.
