RogerC 4 Posted April 1, 2007 ask again here: http://diver.net/bbs/ that's a small board local to soCal. I've never done a multi-day with them or been on the horizon, I've only done a single day on their other boat the ocean odyssey. Definitely one of the better socal boats and operations, well respected. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's a luxury liveaboard, more like a bunkroom than a bunch of large staterooms, but with more shared storage, bigger showers, dryer, etc, than the typical overnight socal dive boat to better accomodate multi-days. There are a few small staterooms in addition to bunks, but if it's a typical socal boat, they are just small cabins, enough to provide some changing area, a little privacy for couples. bunk area map here: http://www.horizoncharters.com/contact/dow...ommodations.pdf
mrbubbles 0 Posted April 1, 2007 Any recomendations on multiday boats, photography friendly, non cattle boats would be greately appreciated
davephdv 0 Posted April 1, 2007 The limited load trips run by Truth Aquatics are usually photographer friendly. They are run out of Santa Barbara. I was on a multi-day trip on the Horizon years ago. Bunk style arrangements. Can't remember if they have some small cabins. Not a bad operation though I give a nod to the Truth Aquatic fleet I mentioned above. Weather permitting the Truth Aquatic fleet can access the northern channel islands. They go to San Clemente but it is a long way and a special trip. The horizon usually does San Clemente. Can be excellent diving with warmer water that is often clearer. Great kelp forests and Black Sea Bass. Both San Diego and Santa Barbara are actually the same distance from Cortez banks. ulcs 0 Posted April 1, 2007 The Peace boat out of VEntura can be photo friendly during mid week trips especially when Lobster are out of season and I think they are out now. They are bunks only; but when not full there is plenty of room. You might try Joe Wysocki Optiquatics trips on the Peace. He runs limited load multi-day trips and has lots of cameras for trying out or DUI dry suits for trying out. Great trips, really relaxed and definitely designed for the photographer. The Peace also has a dive shop in Ventura and will deliver tanks, weight belts or anything else needed to the boat for those from out of town. Check out Joes trips: www.optiquatics.com I am not sure he is running the April trip. You can drop him an e-mail at optiquatics@aol.com Terry
Kelpfish 15 Posted April 3, 2007 I second the Truth limited loads. They are usually very well run trips. During bug season it is hard to find a dedicated photo trip but Terry hit it on the head with Joe W of Optiquatics. They are dedicated trips but can get really crowded with cameras, even on a limited load basis. It makes for some good strategy regarding how you will change film, uhhh I mean memory cards and clean o-rings and charge batteries while competing for for outlet space. Best to bring a power strip.
