james 0 Posted April 24, 2007 Hi All, Well summer is almost here in Houston and I am SOOOO glad to be getting back to shooting again. Diving can be pretty expensive around here, but this kind of photography is free and if I'm lucky, I even make a little money, lol. I got to use an awesome pool this time. It's got great landscaping and a flagstone "beach." Your thoughts and feedback are appreciated. Here are some photos from the first shoot. This model is NOT a freediver but did an awesome job: This is a portrait we did using two key lights and no hair light. You can see pretty sharp shadows. I did set up a hair light for later shots and it worked pretty well: These are a few full length shots made against the black backdrop: Backdrop here is the evening sky: And here are a few open-water shots. These are the most difficult for new underwater models as Lambis can attest but she is a natural! I can provide the shooting details if anyone is interested. This was my first themed shoot. The theme is based on a character from a recent movie - let's see if any of you can place it? Sincerely James Wiseman

ouigiman 0 Posted April 24, 2007 Hi James The photos are awesome. Can you please provide details of the shoot (ie: strobes, camera setup, camera settings, etc). I assume that you were on scuba but the model was breadth holding ... am I right? I am very interested in doing something similar but its still in the planning phase. Thanks in Advance Luigi

james 0 Posted April 25, 2007 Thanks all! Wags, if your wife ever comes to Houston I'd be glad to set up a shoot with her. I'll even give you two a discounted rate since you're Wetpixel mods :-P Here's a photo that shows the setup perfectly: I shot the portraits at 40mm w/ a 17-40L at about F11. You can get close at these settings so that you minimize your shadows. Since you can't really use a softbox underwater, getting close is key. I also set up two large slave Ikelite SS400's. One is a hairlight, which you can see up and out of the water. Don't fire it too often so that it doesn't melt down :-) The model did all of the work when it came to researching makup so I can't comment too much. She read that you should "overdo it" for an underwater shoot and I think it worked. Any questions I didn't answer? Cheers James
