Tulamben&Seraya

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

 I am Jenny. This is the slideshow from Tulamben and Seraya.

I stayed in Tauch Terminal Reosrt with the excellent guide Wayan.

The diving in Seraya is still great with many fantastic critters.

However...the big sea fan in drop-off is almost half dead. :o

BTW, i saw whale shark in Batu Nity where the site is close to Seraya.

I took 105mm macro lens... :)

I also saw two Dolphins in Seraya when i was in 10m shoting Harliquin shrimp.

Thanks for your viewing and comments!

Beautiful stuff, Jenny. Hey, if you haven't already done so, please send the Dendronotus nudibranch to Bill Rudman at the Sea Slug Forum. (It's the fuzzy looking one) I know he'd be interested in another record of it, as it is undescribed.

Cheers,

Marli

I agree, bravo! I loved Tulamben and these photos really took me back there.

I was very sad to read that the big fan (like 4 meters diameter!) at the dropoff is dieing - that is sad. I wonder what is the problem?

James

I meant the slug was fuzzy, not your photo!

Jenny,

Very, very nice photographs!! It is hard to pick favorites but I really like your orange mantis photo and the following saron shrimp photo....

I too like that area in Bali very much!

Yes, so others know there was a whale shark sighted from our boat while I was mola diving in Lembongan also in fall 2005, plus we saw a thresher shark really close - but few mola........ <_< , so go figure.

Nice about the dolphin watching you photograph the harlequins..... :o

Did you have success getting your d200/105vr setup more neutral underwater? I did, but it took different combinations of things to get it right. It is very light now and much more manageable and doesn't hurt my hand underwater anymore.

Jenny did you take all the macros with the SB800? What about the wide angles - as far as strobes, SB800 plus Inon or just one or two Inons? (I'm just thinkin the SB800 might be lighter underwater and I might want to try it out in certain situations.)

Thanks a lot for posting, your photographs always show lots of personality and what we refer to as "pizzaz".... (that's a good thing!!... :) )

Best, Carol

Thanks Pakman, Wags,James and Marli  !

Hi James, The locals said that it is infected by disease...

i am not sure..maybe the warmer water causes the death.

Maybe the touching by divers who did pose for camera is the main reason...

Hey Carol,

Glad to hear your encouragement!

My fingers still feel painful after diving  .... i found my muscles of my right hand are bigger than before! :)

Yes, I have already seen your neutral-testing report with D200 last year. Thanks for your great idea!!

And I asked my camera shop where i can get these gears in Taiwan..i still wait for the reply.

About the Strobe, i used main flash SB800 (in subal housing) with sub flash INON Z240.

The subal housing plus SB800 is much bigger than single Z240. A little unbalanced.

However..it can be i-TTL for a beginner like me.. ( but now i shot with manual mode).

BTW,it got the biggest GN value to take W/A photos!! I can use the SB800 with Z240 in macro and W/A in the same trip.

Cheers my sister!

Jenny,

Thanks for the complete answer. Interesting how you use the SB800 and Z240 together - with simply wonderful results!!

I'll post a new pic soon of how I got my macro setup, d200/105vr/new Subal 105vr port w/manual focus, etc. (also with 2X TC, extension rings etc) neutral. It was a combination of the Patima BCs, a little corecell foam on two of the arms and a corecell buoyancy ring that Ryan Canon carved for me - placed around the 105vr port. It really isn't too bulky and very balanced. I thought about trying the new ULCS arms but I think I already have it under control without adding the arms which are quite large.

So it is possible there are several good solutions out there and I've found a combination of two or three of them seems to work best and is most balanced.

But I'm glad to know your muscles are bigger now..... :o

Again wonderful pics and I'll post details and some interesting "muck monsters" from Florida as soon as I get caught up here..... :guiness:; Right now I'm fixing peeling paint in my condo ----- Yuck!!!

Thanks so much for your wonderful photos!

Carol
