Nexus D200 Housing depth rate

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am a little confused about diferences I found on Nexus housings and ports depth rates from diferent sources. In some places I saw 60 meters, in others, 75 meters; and even thougt I was told ports canno´t be used under 40 meters.

I have checked out my housing and Athena 170 dome port at 42 meters without any problem.

¿could anyone let me know their experiences with this housing and ports?

All the best

Always refer to the manufacturer's data, pressure thresold is not something you want to discover by yourself <_< . your dealer or the manufacturer web site should have this important data readily available. I have the utmost respect for this community (us wetpixelians). But go to the source for this info, buddy's recommendation wont weight a lot if you get in trouble.

And obliviously use the shallowest rating as your guide, meaning if everything goes to 80m except, let say a strobe that would have only 40m, then 40m is the deepest you should go.

Some of the ports are rates as shallow as 30m, i've taken my fp170 and macro setup to about 70m without issue.

If you want a deep INSURABLE rig, go for aquatica!

If your housing floods past any parts recommended depth, get creative with your claim!

It´s really hard to belive Nexus ports are rated just up to 40. Is that the "proffesional proof" they advertise?

No information concerning this is provided by manufacturer in box, and Anthis web site is not an example of clarity, so meanwhile I get something "official" I think seller´s testimonial is not as valid as serious users one. So please keep on telling me more experiences.

On the other hand, let me disagree with friend Scuba_SI concerning his Aquatica confidence. I come from it, after one disapointing flood because a bad sealing of the rear acrylic window.

Many thanks all

I also have Nexus and have the same concerns. When I bought the FP170 for my housing the instructions claim 30M max however the dealer assured me they have had it to 70M. Hard to know who to trust but keep your insurance paid up.

Personally I would like to find a housing and port for deeper than 70m but the only thing I have found are for point and shoot digitals. I am almost sorry I sold my L&M Tetra for the Oly.

You should write a e-mail to the manufacturer to clarify and get an official statement on their depth rating. Your manufacture should be able to assist you with this info,

Please if you want to personnalise your depth rating, do a run without the camera inside and with the port, extension & strobes that you plan on using. The combination used may affect the result so testing your own combo is still the saffest way.

Just to clarify something, there is two kind of depth rating threshold in my opinion. one is the operating depth of the housing, meaning at X depth the camera will function properly, beyond that depth it wont leak but due to pressure on the control surface, it might not work properly, this happen when the ambient pressure either pushes the button to make contact with thoses on the camera and therefore prevent the camera from triggering, or it might be warping of the wall of the housing preventing control to mate to those on the camera.

The other is O-ring failure, this is the point were your housing loose the abillity to seal properly either to severe warping of the housing wall or to the ambient pressure pushing the o-rings out of shape, this is normally well outside the recommended depth rating but nonetheless it is lurking down there. Obliviously this one is more critical.

Personally I would like to find a housing and port for deeper than 70m but the only thing I have found are for point and shoot digitals

Our housing (Aquatica) are rated to a usable depth of 300 feet but if need be, can have the push buttons springs modified to go to as deep as 450 feets, but we are adament that if modified the user do a required immersion of the housing without camera to the planed depth as protection. Pressure is serious matter and often not treated with the respect it deserve.

Have some of you the way to find Anthis Nexus e-mail. I didn´t found it on its web site Anthis

Manual owner indicates a depth rate for D200 Nexus housing is 75 m. That is OK, but no official information available about ports. That is what I canno´t belive ports have a diferent specification. Wich ports are Anthis supposing Nexus users should use for its housings?

Hi,

I posted this picture some time ago & it happened at 65m & this dome port had some deep scratches.

Since, I do not take my FP170 DOME PORT deeper than 50m. plus, I measured thickness of broken pieces

& found it was not equal as they produced ( I think) this dome from flat platic plate. It was only 2-3mm thick.

This is the one topic that tweaks me about my Nexus housing. Many of their ports are rated to depths that I consider too constraining. I think the FP120-7 and the ZP1224-10 fall into the 40 meter limit as well.

That being said, you mentioned that you had an Athena dome. My understanding is that these (non-Nexus) domes are rated much deeper (100 meters).

If you've got a true Athena dome, cherish it.

David

Yes, Athena 170 OPD port is absolutely great, 100 meter oficially rated and BK7 Optical glass.

Anybody know something about Nexus flat ports?
