RoDiver 0 Posted May 27, 2007 Can anyone tell me why the strobe connector on the Ikelite housing for the D200 is standing upwards?? On serveral models from Ikelite , like my previous one for the D70 it was turned downwards. Drups of water ...never come in. My fear became reality... in one way ore another drops entered and the fun is gone for some weeks... not to mention the amount of money for repair. Can anyone give me an update if you have the same experience and how it was solved? It is possible to have the connector turned downwards ??? Looking forward to serious reactions, Kind regards, RoDiver
philmayer 0 Posted May 27, 2007 I have no idea why it's installed that way. I'd like to know too.
dhaas 27 Posted May 27, 2007 RoDiver and Phil, Regarding the right angle bulkhead connector...Wen they first had it angled down slightly, some people complained they had to route their coil cords down and then up (I believe.) I never had a problem with it as I simply tucked my cord under the handle and between the black screw on clamp. Never pinched a cord either.... RoDiver, how do you get water in this connection? Any time you disconnect a cord or bulkhead cap that has been wet, try tipping the connection DOWN, so any water falls AWAY from the connection. Then immediately dry out with a Q-Tip, or dry cloth (your t-shirt edge works GREAT! If your housing to strobe connection fired on the first dive, and you put a glob of gease on the metal to metal threads I leave mine connected for the whole trip! 3 solid weeks of diving is the longest I've gone, and when I unplug for packing everything comes apart fine. I don't think there could be a position for the flash bulkhead that everyone would agree is right I AM glad it's "keyed" into the back and can't twist and break the hot shoe / TTL circuitry wires..... YMMV dhaas
UWphotoNewbie 1 Posted May 29, 2007 I never unplug this unless I'm in a dry environment. I always try to rig up in the hotel for a full day's diving and leave it alone. Wet pangas scare me.
scorpio_fish 5 Posted May 29, 2007 One should always make sure the housing connector is pointed down. This is even more true with the pathetically obsolete Nikonos connector, where it is far easier for water to pool up than with the solid reliable Ikelite connector. The same is true with strobes. Make sure the strobe connector is pointing down when undoing the cord at the end of the trip. As far as I know, all other housing have the connectors on top, so the Ikelite is really no different in which way it points.
