I think the 17 inch shipping is still delayed as of this weekend - so it will be hard to find someone with hands-on unless they attended MacWorld SF in January or got to an Apple store that has one.

I ordered one the first day it was announced without telling my wife. Luckily shippings was delayed which will give me more time to convince my wife I really need a new mac for my work (freelance). I haven't seen it yet, not even in the shops, but it looks outrageous. I use a 15 inch G4 now at work which is very very good.

Thanks for the info Dave.

I am going to order one tomorrow as it looks very good value for money and packed with useful devices.

Hopefully the 2xDVD burner too. The 1gb of Ram has got to be good for the likes of us eh?

I don't have a Mac but I did but a 16" sony. It is great at home or in the office but is very large and heavy for travelling. When I try to edit images on an airplane, it barely fits on the tray table. If the person in front of you reclines his seat, forget it. I almost wish I had bought a smaller laptop for the weight and overall size. For what it's worth.

Hi Scotty thank you for your input.

I am intending to use the 17" primarily for work and home office. I think you are right it may be much to much to want to take on a dive holiday. We have a small 12" version that my husband uses for editing his video when we are away and I will get my turn too for the still camera.

I have read comments online that there is a problem with the hinge durability in display of the 17 inch powerbooks, and that a major re-engineering effort is underway (hence the shipping delays).

I was highly tempted to go for the 17 inch, but in the end I bought a 15.2 inch titanium. It has the same processor/drives etc, and I got it with 1Gb RAM etc etc. As far as I am concerned the only things I gave up were Firewire 2 and the Airport extreme. My work's wireless system is 802.11b and there is no plans to change to 802.11g, so I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
