Islandbound 1 Posted June 11, 2007 On the side of the 60mm is the choice of LIMIT/FULL. Which one is best to use and why?
Arnon_Ayal 1 Posted June 11, 2007 the 'limit' controls how far through the focusing scale the lens will autofocus. Having it set on 'full' will allow the lens to autofocus through its full range from the Minimum Focus Distance (8.8")to infinity. Placing it on 'limit' will restrict the autofocus to between 8.8" to 1 foot (not sure about the exact value), or between 1 foot and infinity, depending on where the focus is when the switch is placed on 'limit'. The benefit of this is that it speeds up focusing when doing macro photography by preventing the lens from racking in and out full range if you only need to focus on a very narrow range of the subject. The problem is that it won't let you change from macro for fish-portrait for instance if you can't change it under water as in my housing. Until not I didn't sow a need to help the lens with that function so I always sets it to full.
scubamarli 5 Posted June 11, 2007 Although since going digital I haven't tried in on limit, on my film housing I could not get the lens to focus underwater on limit. That being said, I dive in cold, dark water, and that was before I had my Fix Light. I leave it on full; with a good light, I don't find it hunts at all, except when shooting 3D objects, like anemones. Cheers, Marli
fisheyeview 0 Posted June 11, 2007 I would set it to FULL. I accidentally had it on LIMIT once, and it drove me nuts the entire dive.
Islandbound 1 Posted June 11, 2007 Thanks for the input! Unfortunately it will be a couple of days till I go try it out in the water as there is a big storm on the coast, at least its not a typhoon... yet.
