erika 0 Posted July 30, 2007 Hi, I'm buying the Nexus housing for my Nikon D200 camera and 105mm VR lens. I'm hearing that there's no focus switch knob s.m.c. on this housing. Is there any other way to get the camera to focus manually or at least keep the focus once it's done so the lens doesn't keep going back and forth all the time in low light conditions? Any ideas are welcome! Thanks, Erika.
ScubaSapiens 0 Posted July 31, 2007 Not true, the D200 housing has a focus knob. But I don't think there's a focus gear for that lens... You could try a port from Patima, they are compatible (Pastima used to be peddeling Nexus in Korea in the olden days) and have a focus know on the port itself. Dunno if it fits though, but see if you can get your hands on one to try it out. I use the 105mm VR a lot myself, and have no problems with autofocus - as long as there is enough light. The easy solution is to get a good focus light - then there are no "low light conditions". I'd try that first, anyway. My housing doesn't have the AF on/off know installed, but if you get that one you can always get it almost right by automatic, switch it off and do the rest by moving the camera back and forth. jcclink 8 Posted August 1, 2007 (edited) First of all I believe that you will need a smaller diameter focus drive gear for the housing (available from Nexus) due to the larger lens/gear diameter of the VR. The lens will fit with the 60mm macro port & 40mm extension ring. Set the lens to AF/M, which is Af with Manual over ride. Depress the shutter button 1/2 way for AF, but if you keep it in the 1/2 way position & move the focus control the lens shifts to manual focus. Releasing the shutter control takes you back to AF. You can take a pic at any time in manual focus mode, in focus or not. Edited August 1, 2007 by jcclink
