Strombus minimus?

Recommended Posts

So here's some conch like critters caught on a night dive in the Solomons. I think it's Strombus minimus, but its a lot more colourful than the reference photos I have. Any snail people out there?

Cheers,

Marli

Hi Marli,

They are Strombus (Canarium) dentatus. They're more nocturnal than most strombids, and have variable but beautifully-patterned shells. All the adults have the small denticles near the siphonal canal, on the anterior part of the lip.

Thanks, Don,

It was the "toothy bits" that had me unsure.

Cheers,

Marli
