dhaas 40 Posted September 1, 2007 J-S, You should have these instructions (many that are now available online at www.ikelite.com) in the extension and / or port box: http://www.ikelite.com/downloads/instructions/Ports_pdf/Dome_8_inst.pdf The o-ring sealing the extension to the 8" dome port base plate just needs to be clean and lubed when installing. Unless you change extensions for different lenses a lot, you may leave this one attached for years The threads on the extension are pretty fine, and actually putting a bit of o-ring grease on them can make screwing the extension in easier. Make sure your hands are dry, too, as these are a fine thread..... Some folks use an oil filter strap wrench on the other port extension bodies. The #5510.10 is so short it's hard to get a grip with that type of tool, though. Just make sure you thread it in as the instructions say, all the way so you can see the body flush inside the dome base plate. Good shooting! dhaas
J-S 0 Posted September 2, 2007 Hello, Thans a lot dhaas Yes, I've received this manual, http://www.ikelite.com/downloads/instructi...Dome_8_inst.pdf But on page number 2, it's written : "Remove the Body/Base Plate o-ring, put a small amount of lubricant on your fingers and draw the o-ring through your fingers to lightly lubricate it. Do not stretch the o-ring. Check that the o-ring groove in the Body where the o-ring fits and the sealing surface on the port base plate are clean." That's why I was a little bit disappointed for removing this oring. Finally, is it better to remove or not this oring ? If yes, how ? Thanks.
dhaas 40 Posted September 2, 2007 J-S, Many folks like dull dental pics or other plastic implements to remove o-rings without knicking them. I don't recommend anything metal... So here's my super secret best tip: Go to your local music store and get plastic THIN guitar picks. 3 for 25 cents at most places! Get bright colored ones so if you drop it on the camera table or wherever you'll find it again Good luck! dhaas
J-S 0 Posted September 3, 2007 Thanks dhaas, I was a little bit afffraid when, doing an autoportrait, the dome start to rotate Maybe you've got a trick to secure the bayonet fashion mount? So the UW test :
jlyle 8 Posted September 3, 2007 The dome won't rotate underwater - too much of a pressure difference. The dome SHADE easily rotates, in or out of the water.
dhaas 40 Posted September 3, 2007 J-S and jlyle, The shortest extension, #5510.10 when mounted on the 8" dome port needs to be lined up for proper installation. Locate the little divot visible looking through the front of your dome. Then, with the port locks CLOSED, and your main port o-ring greased properly to be able to slide, press down evenly and then rotate the port clockwise until you feel it hit the roll pin stop, indicating it is secure. The shade has 4 set screws which when tightened slip into a groove on the outer edge of the port. Once you install the port, rotated as decribed above, loosen the set screws and align the larger shade sections at 12 and 6 o'clock. Then tighten down the set screws snugly, not overtightening them. This way, you can simply glance over the top of the housing and see the set screw is still at 12 o'clock indicating the port is turned all the way on. Even with a properly greased o-ring as jlyle states water pressure is going to make it fairly hard to rotate the port under pressure......Surface and shallow water is where there is little pressure and you should pay attention there....... That said, two weeks ago 5 Ikelite users (me included) were jumping off a boat snorkeling, many with the same short extension and port described here...No problems Looking forward to more of your photos! dhaas

scubarobot 0 Posted October 10, 2007 HELLOIs it ment that the shade is rotating ???? or should it stick to the same place even when the cam is taking pictures in horizontal or vertical possition. thanks fotoduiker The shade will turn freely but you should adjust it to you camera. The long parts of the shade should be horizontal with the camera being horizontal. If you turn it you may get vinetting(spelling).
