vkalia 1 Posted September 4, 2007 I am putting together a backup/travel system based around a Canon G6 body and Ike housing. I am undecided between 1 DS-125 or 2 DS-51s. I'll be using this camera with both the Inon UWL WA adapter as well as macro closeup lens. I think it will be primarily macro and fish shots, with perhaps 10-20% CFWA/WA stuff. So I think either of these rigs should meet my needs. I know the pros and cons of both these options. I just dont know how to choose between them. So let me ask you guys. If you had a choice, what would you do? Which factor would tilt the decision in your favor? 2 DS125s isnt even an option. I just bought a new Inon Z240 to replace the one that flooded, I still have to pay to get my SLR housing upgraded for the big Aquaview viewfinder & I need to get a new 1D3 for topsides shooting. So unless some kind soul wants to gift me a second one (or trade off strobes for a diving holiday), let's not even go there. TIA, Vandit
james 0 Posted September 4, 2007 This is a good question! I have both flashes, the DS51 and the 125. When I dive I tend to always use (or at least mount) two flashes because I like the flexibility it gives me with the lighting. 2 of the DS51's with diffusers would work OK for fish photos and macro and they are very small and light. They aren't negative underwater like the 125's are. Cheers James
Islandbound 1 Posted September 4, 2007 I use a single DS51 with a G7 and have no complaints. If I had two I would use two but the DS51 is a nice and light strobe with a small profile that makes the Ikelite housing easy to tote around and to even hook onto a belt while swimming without too much drag through the water. vkalia 1 Posted September 5, 2007 James - Yeah, I use 2 strobes with my Aquatica as well - like you, I prefer the flexibility and additional lighting options available. However, I am concerned that if I put 2 strobes on the G6, I am once again getting a big and bulky setup. As I rarely go fore purely diving holidays anymore, my u/w rig has to share space with 3-4 topside lenses, flashes, etc. So smaller = better. But when I start thinking of one strobe, I am concerned if I am giving up too much in the way of flexibility with lighting options. Islandbound - do you use any wet lenses along with your setup? And does the single DS-51 let you stop down enough when shooting macro? For that matter, anyone using a DS-125 and a DS-51 together? Vandit

Vandit What are the options if I wanna hv a light that is permanently on.. for taking video using the G7?.. Does the DS125 support that? Picking up new housing n DS-125 tomorrow...
