Wide-angle lens suggestions for Ikelite housing?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been discussed before, so forgive me. I am looking for a quality wide angle lens to use with my Canon HV10 and Ikelite housing. I have the Inon UWL-100 lens, and that thing has softness and vignetting around the edges like there is no tomorrow. Is there a wet lens that will give me quality results with my setup, or am i forced to go with the ikelite dome port and a dry WA lens on the camera itself? if the latter is the case can anyone recommend a good dry WA lens? Thanks in advance!

ps- anyone want to buy an Inon UWL-100 :)

If you are going with a dome port... it'd be wise to get the specs from Ikelite regarding focal point distances for your WA adapter to get the best quality. And also fit!

As for brands, in 37mm, the Century Optics is pretty decent. There's plenty of barrel distortion but it's sharpish in the center. Problem is at 37mm, not many people care about edge sharpness and distortion.

I used the UWL-100 (now with the dome kit) without trouble on my ikelite housing for HC42... but I had to ask Ikelite to put a shorter dome. When I had the lens, I had the same trouble with vignetting and distortion. Ikelite will replace the dome by a shorter one if it's possible for around $100. Now it's just perfect. No distortion at all.
